Auto Expo begins, plethoraof companies participate

New Delhi, The 15th edition of

Asia’s largest automobileshow in terms of visitor foot-falls kicked-off here onWednesday with a plethoraof auto companies, start-ups, telecom, alternate fuel,electric vehicle and socialmedia firms participating atthe mega event.

The Auto Expo 2020 —Motor Show, will have a se-lect opening on Wednesdayand it will formally open forthe public from Friday.

The show features morethan 15 start-ups, telecom,alternate fuel, electric ve-hicle and social media firms.

“Auto Expo 2020 wouldsee a showcase of differenttechnologies related toclean vehicles, safe vehicles,electric vehicles and con-nected vehicles,” Society ofIndian Automobile Manu-facturers Director GeneralRajesh Menon told IANS.

“This Auto Expo is be-yond just showcasing of ve-hicles and will also focus onthe new paradigms of mo-bility like connected cars,electric cars, and alternativefuel.”

Segment-wise, the start-up section of the show dis-plays technology solutionsfor green mobility and ser-vices connected to the au-tomobile industry.

Furthermore, RelianceJio and FaceBook are alsopresent at the event alongwith 15 new technology

start-ups.Lately, telecom opera-

tors have entered the seg-ment to provide connectiv-ity to internet-enabled carsand Jio will be showcasingembedded SIM technologyfor the automobile sector.

Facebook will host atown hall discussion andwill also be holding otherevents.

Others such as Lithium-ion battery and chargermanufacturers, along withtyre firms will also bepresent at the auto show.

Besides, Brazilian UNICA(Brazilian Sugarcane Indus-try Association), one of theworld’s largest bioethanolproducers, Italian tyre firmPirelli and design companyIcona will also mark theirmaiden presence at theexpo.

However, the star attrac-tions are expected to be thenew foreign players at theauto show.New automobile

firms like the Chinese’ GreatWall Motor, FAW Haima,Olectra and MG Motors willshowcase a vast variety ofcars, SUVs and buses.

The visitors to the eventwill witness 60 launches ofpassenger cars, commercialvehicles and two-wheelers.

Many of these launchesare expected to be face-liftsof existing models with BS-VI compliant engines as thecountry is shifting to BS-VIfrom April 2020.

The healthy participa-tion and launches assumesignificance as the sectorhas been battered by fallingsales due to high goods andservices tax (GST), farm dis-tress, stagnant wages and li-quidity constraints. Whilesome companies had to re-duce production, dealerstook inventory correctionmeasures. Besides, brandslike Volkswagen, Skoda,Force Motors will make a re-turn to the motor show.
