Brian Selznick Author and IIlustrator
Brian Selznick started out as a bookseller and window dresser at Eeyore’s Books in Manhattan, but
knew very little about children’s literature.
The Houdini BoxThis is his first book, and one of his most favorite to write and illustrate. His research for this book took him to a cemetery in Queens, New York, where Harry Houdini is buried.
Brian has collaborated with such authors as Pam Muñoz Ryan, Andrew Clements, Barbara
Kerley, Ann M. Martin and Pam Conrad.

While doing research for the book, The Dinosaurs of Waterhouse Hawkins, Brian visited the site in London where the Hawkins dinosaurs
were first made.
Two of Brian Selznick’s picture books for older children, When Marian Sang and Amelia and
Eleanor Go For A Ride teach us about three very famous women in history, Marian Anderson,
Amelia Earhart and Eleanor Roosevelt.
Doll Face Has A Party by Pam Conrad, a Rockville Centre author, who has since passed
away, illustrates Selznick’s amazing collaborative talents. Selznick made a model
of Doll Face and posed her for the illustrations in the book. He still keeps her in his art studio.
Go to the library and check out the books by the multi-talented author/illustrator Brian Selznick. ENJOY!!
