Brian Lampman: Saline Hornet Mens Soccer

Coach Lampman will begin his eleventh year coaching the Saline Mens' varsity team this fall. Lampman previously coached six years at his alma mater, Pioneer High School; five with the Womens' freshman team and one with the Mens' junior varsity. Lampman holds a National "D" License and directs frequent youth clinics in Saline. Lampman has attended coaching clinics at the University of Michigan and Indiana University. Lampman has served as a staff coach for the University of Michigan Girls' Soccer Summer Camps, and serves as camp director for the Saline Mens' Summer Soccer Camp. Coach Lampman is proud of the growth of the Saline Mens' program and commitment to excellence in the classroom, in the community and on the field. Coach Lampman's teams are active in the Saline community hosting youth clinics and various fundraising activities including work for the American Cancer Society. Each year, many of Coach Lampman's players have earned the Saline Soccer Scholar-Baller TM Award (3.25 g.p.a or higher during the season). Coach Lampman's teams have earned four SEC Titles, six district finals' appearances, three regional titles and one Division I State Finals' runner-up title. The Varsity team has been ranked in the state division I top ten final coaches' poll in five of the past seven seasons and earned their first national ranking in 2008. The team earned the 2004 MHSAA Sportsmanship award and 2005 SEMRA Sportsmanship award. Lampman was the 2003 and 2004 District and Regional Coach of the year, and the 2004 and 2008 Ann Arbor News Coach of the Year. Coach Lampman graduated from Pioneer High School where he earned varsity letters in soccer, basketball, cross country and track. Lampman completed his undergraduate degrees and teaching certificate from the University of Michigan, where he briefly competed as a walk-on for the University of Michigan cross country and indoor track teams. He later earned his Masters degree from Eastern Michigan University. This fall, Lampman will begin his fourteenth year of teaching in the Saline School District. Lampman teaches Sociology, Sports Sociology, and American Government. Lampman is passionate about studying the complex role that sports plays in our society. Lampman integrates sports sociology lessons into his curriculum to teach his students about race, gender, social class and the history of our country. Lampman has presented nationally in the sports sociology field at the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport in Cleveland and Indianapolis; the National Consortium for Academics and Sport in Orlando; and, the Chicago Seminar on Sport and Culture. Lampman was also director of the Saline Sports in Society Lecture Series, that culminated with an appearance by Olympic Gold Medalist and E.S.P.N commentator Julie Foudy in May of 2005. Lampman will present at the National Council for the Social Studies conference in Colorado this fall. The presentation will explore the use of sports sociology lessons by educators to work for social justice. Lampman's first co-edited book in the Sports Sociology field, Learning Culture Through Sport, was published in March of 2006 by Rowman Education. He has completed a second volume of the book slated for a August 2010 release. His first book was featured on the Center for Sports Parenting's website as a Book of the Month selection. Coach Lampman has also appeared on radio stations in Michigan, Maine and Missouri to discuss reform in youth sports. Lampman resides in Ann Arbor with his wife, Justina, and sons, Kale and Tate, and is the head coach of the Burns Park Penguins 2nd grade soccer team. ball player and is the #1 seed on his block. He plays competitively with his kids in Harbor Springs, Michigan in the summer.
