BRIAN BALLARD

description

Distinguished by Irish artist Ballard's typical fascination with the familiar, these recent works also create intriguing narratives through a more fervent focus on chiaroscuro and liminal space.

Brian Ballard has held several solo and group exhibitions and has been represented by CadoganContemporary since the early 1990s. After a major retrospective in Ireland last year, we are very pleased to present a new collection of Brian’s work, his first show in London in five years.

Made up predominantly of landscapes, the artist further develops his theatrical interplay of light and shadow remains a central feature of his work. Studies in branch-dappled light, Ballard’s wooded forest paths are infused with the drama of chiaroscuro and pay homage to vitality and expressivity of colour. The rocky shores of Ballard’s native Ireland are equally vibrant in his coastal seascapes, where rugged shorelines gleam at twilight or blink with fiery hues in the late afternoon sun.
