Get own to BusinessCentrally located in downtown Brentwood, aryland farms is the

perect place or businesses to set up shop. ts multiple business parks

oer a myriad o services and are home to several national headquarters.

The area has become the epicenter o Brentwood business, drawing

crowds o all kinds, but it still

retains a balance betweenbusiness oices and open

    spaces. The peaceul setting

    and close proimity to

    schools, parks and

    subdivisions only add

    to the areas appeal. But

    aryland farms isnt all

    business. t also oers an

    abundance o activities, rom

    classes at small dance studios

and the pool at the CA

    in the summer to grabbing

a cup o coee at the

    neighborhood Starbucks.

Book tTheres a lot more than books behind the Brentwood Librarys doors.

ailed as the crown jewel o the city, the library holds more than

153,000 books, s, audio books, newly added video games and more.

ore impressive than the epansive collection is the imagination-inciting

Childrens Corner. The scenery a leay mi somewhere between a

leisure park and Tarzans jungle, complete with swinging vines and

sweeping gazebos creates an other-worldly atmosphere that kids will

happily be sucked into. The books come into play shortly ater the initial

awe is worn away. Thousands o books tucked behind roots and tree

branches wait to be discovered, along with computer databases and

videos designed to engage children. Programs oered include Preschool

Story Times, held our times a week, and special seasonal programs.

On October 29, 2011Brentwood will onceagain host the Susan G.Komen Race for the Cure.

The race, in its third consecutiveyear in Brentwood, will bringapproximately 20,000 participants

and visitors to the city.It is exciting to see Maryland Farmstransform into a sea of pink, says CindiParmenter, Brentwood Cool SpringsChamber President. The chamber wasinstrumental in bringing Komen, whoraises money for breast cancer research,to Brentwood, and has been honored tobe the Presenting Chamber sponsoreach year.

    Brentwoo arksncompass 900 Acres

The Race for the Cure is just oneexample of Brentwoods commitmentto its residents good health and activelifestyles.

The Brentwood Cool Springs Chamberpartners with Komen to organize and hostan annual Healthy Living and LifestylesExpo to bring awareness to health andwellness issues in the community.

And Brentwood Mayor Betsy Crossleypoints out that Brentwood has dozens ofother outdoor activities and venues thatare ideal for getting fit and staying healthy.

In fact, right now the city oversees900 acres that encompass nine publicparks, with three more parks scheduledto open in the near future.

One of those upcoming venues isthe 320-acre Marcella Vivrette Smith

Park situated off Wilson Pike. Thatparticular property wil l also includethe historic Ravenswood home.

Meanwhile, an eleventh parkmeasuring 20 acres is being plannedalong General McArthur Drive, anda twelfth park has been earmarked for

22 acres at the end of Virginia Way,Maryland Farms and Granny WhitePike, Crossley says. A lot ofcommunities will never develop such apark system like we have, but Brentwoodhad the foresight to begin working onthis 20 years ago.

    Brentwoo lans dog ark,Bike aths

Crossley adds that the city also isplanning to add a dog park inside oneof its existing parks during 2011, and

Brentwood also is working withNolensville off icials to help set upthat citys greenway system.

Ideally, I would like to eventuallysee the entire city of Brentwoodconnected by bike paths, plus the eastand west sides of Concord Road needto be developed as outdoor recreationspots, she says. And when newneighborhoods and even commercialareas are built these days and in thefuture, we will make sure thatsidewalks are insta lled to promotewalking and other healthy activities.

Dave Bunt, director of BrentwoodParks and Recreation, says the publicparks continue year-after-year to besome of the most utilized facilities inall of Brentwood.

Tucked inside the heart ofBrentwood, the bustli ngurban district known asTown Center was once a

dream of locals and city administrators. For decades, they envisioned a trendydowntown destination for fun, food andculture in the city, and in recent yearsthat dream has become a reality.

Brentwoo Town CenterGeographically defined by Old

Hickory Boulevard to the north,Interstate 65 to the east, Church Streetto the south and Franklin Road to thewest, Town Center now has more than100 retail stores, restaurants andbusinesses serving the community. That surge of energy was partly fueledby the City of Brentwood taking stepsto encourage redevelopment of the area, from the construction of Town CenterWay to upgrading water and sewerlines, and creating a traf fic roundaboutat the intersection of Wilson Pi ke Circle.

Ive seen this area come a long way,and its exciting to see a new wave ofbusinesses opening here, says StaceyRhodes, who owns Stacey RhodesBoutique on Franklin Road. Ive livedhere since I was 14, and all my familylives here. Im one of the pioneers.

Rhodes opened her full-serviceboutique in 2002 in Brentwoods HillCenter. When she outgrew the space, TownCenter provided a perfect place to relocate.Rhodes moved the boutique to its

current location in September 2010and couldnt be happier.Theres a lot of energy here, she

says. I love to see the directionBrentwood is going with independentretail and restaurants.

Stacey Rhodes Boutique providesstyling from head to toe, includingclothes, undergarments, shoes, jewelry, handbags, lingerie and some amazingone-of-a-kind hats.

We do hats and dresses for theDerby and Steeplechase, and we do a

huge annual hat event in April calledAn Affair of the Hat, Rhodes says. Itbenefits the T.J. Martell Foundation.

    Town CenterRestaurants, Theater

In August 2010, Town Center sawthe opening of The Local Taco, a hugelypopular eatery that focuses on fresh, creative tacos made with locallyproduced ingredients.

We try to push the envelope with

our special tacos every day, says LocalTaco owner John Ko. One day welloffer a Lobster BLT Taco or a Sesame-Seared Mahi Taco, but you can alsomix it up with our regular tacos, likea Southern Fried Chicken Taco or aKorean BBQ Taco. We also offer a greathappy hour spot with two patios duringnicer weather.

Ko opted for the Town Centerlocation because he noticed otherlocal restaurants such as Judge BeansBar-B-Que, Peters Sushi & Thai and

Puffy Muffin were already thriving inthe area.

I knew the demographics were verystrong in Brentwood, and I thoughtpeople would appreciate somethingdifferent from the average Tex-Mexrestaurant, Ko says. I believe theresa lot of potential in this area.

Town Center is a one-stop destinationfor dates or family outings, thanks toTowne Centre Theatre. The communitytheater group occupies a restoredhistoric building and presents a roster

of live shows and musicals each season.

ncle Classic BarbershopService providers are also settingup shop in Town Center. Amy Tanksleyopened Uncle Classic Barbershop onFranklin Road in 2008, and it was sosuccessful she has since opened a secondlocation in Nashvilles Belle Meade area.

Theres a real buzz about this areawith new specialty retailers coming in,Tanksley says. Its important forBrentwood citizens to have places to eat

and shop here and not have to drive toanother location. I love how the retailers

support one another, and the customersare always thrilled were not a franchise.

people are planning vacations and evenstaycations around the Brentwood/Cool Springs area. (Being only 15minutes from downtown Nashvilleto the north and just a few miles fromhistoric Franklins lively downtowndoesnt hurt either.)

Our growth as the place to be forcorporate headquarters, as well as allthe other new businesses coming in,has meant that weve needed new placesfor people to stay, and for things to doafter 5 p.m., says Matt Largen, directorof Will iamson Countys economicdevelopment office. We have alwaysbeen a great place to work and live, butnow we are becoming a destination forentertainment and retail as well.

    Rapi Business pansionBoosts Lifestle Options

Strong business growth almost 40percent of the Nashville metropolitanareas business growth in the last few

years has taken place in Brentwood/Cool Springs has brought in newplayers in the lodging i ndustry, whichin turn has spawned new shopping anddining options nearby to capitalize onthose guests.

That 40-percent statistic reallyexplains a lot of whats going on aroundhere, Largen says. Our growth is reallyextraordinary. When you see all thejobs here, and all the people moving in,you can understand why the shoppingand retail sectors are doing as well asthey are. Were looking to see thatcontinue to grow, as well as seeing moreafter-hours entertainment coming intothe area, as well as more family-friendlyvenues.

The area also benefits from majordestinations and longtime favoritessuch as CoolSprings Galleria, as well as

smaller, popular shopping and diningdevelopments that include BrentwoodTown Center and Brentwood PlaceShopping Center. These and othermultiuse centers continue to grow, creating an ongoing buzz about thearea that, in turn, brings even morebusinesses and visitors, Largen says.

    eeting, Conentionpace to be deelope

Now we are going to work onadding to our meeting and conventionspace, because a lot of our businessesare now bringing their corporate eventshere, Largen says. Theres plenty forspouses and families to do, so we wantto encourage that kind of travel into thearea. We have al l the amenities anybodycould want, so were going to keepworking to add in all the elements we

might be missing so we present thecomplete package to all of our businessand tourism visitors.

    Talk about overachievers!

The arrival and expansion of these majorplayers is no fluke, but the ongoing result of acoordinated effort between business, economicdevelopment and elected officials to create avibrant, business-friendly community, says

Matt Largen, director of Wil liamson Countysoffice of economic development.

Its not any one single thing, but rathera community that focuses on fundamentals,Largen says. We have a great education system, which drives people to our community; we havelow property tax rates, low crime rates and citieswith development standards, which is really
