Because of your support, We had a tremendous year here at BCDC. This past fiscal year (2014/2015) brought about changes that have already produced successes for 2015/2016. I hope that this issue of our Annual Report will inspire you to continue to support BCDC and the services we provide to our community and throughout Alaska.

Your continued support has allowed us to make a substantial statewide impact. To better serve our patients, we added two new state of the art machines valued at over a million dollars to our facility and mobile program. Our new conference room has already become a venue for presenting to prospective donors and for local community groups to meet, learn and engage while becoming familiar with BCDC and our mission. We have widened our fundraising focus to include foundations grants resulting in $498,000 of new foundation support for 2015/2016. We have served a record number of patients in our mobile program and increased our outreach by having a presence at more events where we can provide education and information.

As you read on and see how your support has helped our mission, we want to thank you for the lives of the 5 women you helped us save this year because THAT is the bottom line. Early detection DOES save lives. In the midst of all the confusion about what the guidelines are for screening and whether there are benefits in mammography, one thing still stands true, breast cancer is STILL real and it STILL kills. So to “keep it simple”, our mission is to keep looking for breast cancer and to keep encouraging women to do the same EVERY chance that they get, in order to save more lives.

You helped us do all of this and we are happy to have earned your trust. Sincerely, Odette Butler, Executive Director
