The Fashion School THE PROGRAM Every spring term, up to five junior or senior Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising students are given the opportunity to study in Hong Kong through an exchange program between Kent State University and Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Students can register at their home university at their regular tuition rate. Kent State students chosen for this experience may also receive a $3,000 scholarship to support their travel expenses, depending on available funds. WHY STUDY IN HONG KONG? The image of Hong Kong is one of endless skyscrapers and a fast pace; although this is true, it is not the whole picture. Hong Kong is also home to sidestreets full of interesting shops and temples and as a temporary resident, you will discover more of what the city has to offer. In the increasingly globalized fashion industry, the key to success includes international experiences that help students develop their potential. Let Hong Kong give you that opportunity, allowing you to: Learn Mandarin or Cantonese while you study in English. Explore China! Connected to the mainland by train, plane and ferry, Hong Kong is the perfect place from which to explore China. Increase your exposure to opportunities for business and career prospects involving China. Live in affordable student housing, while living in a prime real estate location. Study at a top-ranked university during the week, while you escape on the weekends to outlying islands, beaches and hiking routes scattered around the territory. ELIGIBILITY Upon application to the program, students must be enrolled in 30000- and / or 40000-level fashion design and merchandising courses. Participants must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA upon application, with a 3.0 GPA preferred. SCHOLARSHIPSThrough the generous support of the Bob Broadbent International Scholarship Fund, The Fashion School is pleased to offer five (5) $3,000 U.S., merit-based scholarships to apply towards the Kent State Fashion School/Hong Kong Program. All scholarship applications are due Friday of the second week of classes during spring semester. For further details, please visit http://www.kent.edu/fashion/scholarships.

COURSE OFFERINGSCourses apply to Fashion Design and Merchandising degree requirements. Classes are in English and all Hong Kong Poly participants must maintain full-time enrollment.

APPLICATION INFORMATIONComplete the application and submit it with the required essay and résumé by April 3, 2017. The application form can be found at https://www.kent.edu/fashion/hong-kong-polytechnic-university. It is recommended that you have an up-to-date passport at the time of application.

PROGRAM COSTS AND FEESStudents pay a $60 Office of Global Education administrative fee, an HTH insurance fee which is required for all Kent-sponsored study-away programs, Kent State University tuition, Hong Kong Polytechnic University room and board fees, personal expenses and class materials. Tuition rates are determined by a student’s in-state or out-of-state tuition status. Please refer to the Kent State tuition and fees schedule at www.kent.edu/bursar. An additional administration fee to Hong Kong Polytechnic University is also required. The non-refundable fee is $500 HKD and payments can be made by credit card or bank draft.
