How to make bread for the whole family:(This recipe makes 3 loaves)
8cups of bread flour/or regular flour
4 cups of whole wheat flour
3 tsp salt
6 tsp dry yeast (in bulk at Costco)
5-6 cups of warm water
1. Combine flour and salt in large bowl and mix2. In separate bowl mix yeast with 1cup of warm water until dissolved
3. Add yeast to flour and slowly add water as you mix it all together either with a
mixer with a bread hook attachment or by hand with a large spoon. When the dough
is well mixed, dump onto floured surface and kneed until it has a nice smooth
consistency4. Cover with cloth and let rise in a warm spot without drafts (about 30 min or untildoubled in size)
5. Dump dough again onto floured surface and punch down a few times and very
briefly knead.6. Divide into 3 even pieces and either put them directly into a greased pan or braid
each piece by dividing it into 3 even pieces (the braiding will make it mainly look prettier on
top) and then place in pans.7. Cover and let rise again to almost double (approx. 30 min, but also depends on howwarm your kitchen is.)
8 Place pans into cold (!)oven and then turn temp to 395F and bake for 40 min then
remove from pans and leave in for an additional 5 min to get a nice crust.
9.Take out and place on rack to cool.
(The bread also freezes quite well.)
