The first egg was laid on the 23th of May, by one of the pairs that have never lay before.
A total of seven eggs – she laid with an interval of one day between each egg – four fertile and three unfertile.
Monitored with a Spycam 4 hatched on the 8th of july.

The reason for this parent rearing is that we can use these offspring for the releasing program and of course to study their behavior. One example of what we learned about their behavior is the feeding, we learned that they are being fed by the parents until the age of 4 days old and then after this they are fishing by themselves! They are easy capable of eating fishes (lambari) with the size of 3 - 5 cm! And the water doesn’t need to be that crystal clear for them to fish as we thought!
last week we started with the construction of more aviaries for further reproducing-aviaries and community facilities in preparation for the release.
