BRAZILIAN ELODEA IS AN INVASIVE SPECIES THAT

LIVES IN THE WATER AND TAKES OVER THE WATER

SO YOU CAN’T SWIM, FISH, BOAT, OR SKI. AS

YOU CAN SEE, IT’S GREEN AND ALSO HAS A VERY CUTE FLOWER BUT

SADLY IT IS A BAD PLANT.

What is Brazilian Elodea?

Page 3: Brazilian elodea

What is the economic impact? The economic

impact is that fisherman can’t fish through all the weed so they can’t work or feed us or their familes.

Page 4: Brazilian elodea

How is it harmful to native species? It is harmful to native species because it takes over

the water so the water and the fish can’t move. Also to takes too much space and won’t let other plants grow.

IT CAME FROM MAINLY FROM BRAZIL , ARGENTINA , AND URUGUAY.

Where did it originally come from before it invaded?

It came from aquariums because it creates oxygen out of carbon dioxide and from ballast water in ships

Ballast water is water that they used at the bottom of boats to keep it from sailing too high. But the problem is that they release the water at the next port, which lets invasive species ride to different bodies of water.

get rid

of it?

We are trying to chop it

down but it just

multiplies.

We have also tried to make sure

people clean their boats

so it doesn't spread .

What I personally think about this species.

I think they are pretty but when you know their story you can’t think about that because they are ruining our economy and environment and all our beautiful plants of our own.
