A CHANGE IS GONNA COME... A new Red Lick catalite - what’s that, I hear you ask. Well, it is our new publication, not quite a catalogue but more than our usual between-catalogue new release sheet. Sort of a catalogue-lite, if you like. Hence, a catalite! We introduce this as part of our ongoing programme of change, designed to meet the future needs of the business and adjust to the realities of the 21st century (I know, it has taken us a while!). These include a realisation that we simply cannot justify an ongoing commitment to the production of a bulky, detailed and labour-intensive catalogue every other month. It is not just the cost (though rising print and postage costs do make that a factor) but the sheer number of hours involved in researching, writing and editing such a publication; frankly, a continual balls-ache. This commitment not only stops us from life’s little luxuries such as sleep, a relaxing pint here and there or an afternoon in the park with the children, but also the big impact preparing such a catalogue has on our ability to stay focussed on what matters most - servicing our customers, despatching orders as promptly as possible and generally keeping on top of things. It is fair to say that when we are full tilt in meeting the bi-monthly dead- lines of getting the catalogue to print and then posted out, we are severely restricted (for maybe a fortnight every other month) in our ability to keep up with the day-to-day of the operation of the business. Furthermore, we are increasingly conscious of a major and fundamental weakness of the catalogue; that is, much of the editing of each catalogue is concerned with the selection of what is to go in and what is to be left out of the next edition. Spending so much time deciding on what to exclude is, to our mind, nuts, especially as by spending so much time inhibiting the options available via the cata- logue, we are not able to spend the time opening up the possibilities of the website; effectively an on-line catalogue facility that does not incur the obvious and inherent limitations of the traditional printed catalogue. So, the plan from here on in is that the catalogue, as and when it does re-appear, will be a less frequent and less time-tabled occurrence. Rather we will concentrate on a more regular series of catalites and invest the time and money that previously would have gone into the catalogue into the further development of our website. We do this at this time as we are now effectively at the end of the current catalogue subscription year - so please do not send any money in to renew your catalogue subscription (as there now isn’t one). We will revert from here on in to a more subjective decision as to who ‘qualifies’ to be sent future mail-outs - as previous, this will be based on spending patterns over recent months. In simple terms, if you stop spending (either at all or in only miniscule amounts) you run the risk of falling off the mailing lists. Similarly, for those customers who have been paying the £1 to qualify for first class postage of the catalogue, this option has now been ended (on the basis that we are no longer strictly timetabling future catalogues). We appreciate that there will be ‘winners’ and ‘losers’ in relation to these new arrangements but we do believe that the benefits going forward far out-weigh the (unrealistic) option of carrying on as before and changing nothing. We trust you appreciate, and even like, the changes as explained here - no doubt you will let us know in due course either way!

BRAND SPANKING NEW… NEW RELEASES SINCE THE LAST CATALOGUE...

A CHANGE IS GONNA COME...

A new Red Lick catalite - what’s that, I hear you ask. Well, it is our new publication, not quite a catalogue but more than our usual between-catalogue new release sheet. Sort of a catalogue-lite, if you

like. Hence, a catalite!

We introduce this as part of our ongoing programme of change, designed to meet the future needs of the business and adjust to the realities of the 21st century (I know, it has taken us a while!). These

include a realisation that we simply cannot justify an ongoing commitment to the production of a bulky, detailed and labour-intensive catalogue every other month. It is not just the cost (though rising print and postage costs do make that a factor) but the sheer number of hours involved in researching, writing and editing such a publication; frankly, a continual balls-ache. This commitment not only stops us from life’s little luxuries such as sleep, a relaxing pint here and there or an afternoon in the park with the children, but also the big impact preparing such a catalogue has on our ability to stay focussed on

what matters most - servicing our customers, despatching orders as promptly as possible and generally keeping on top of things. It is fair to say that when we are full tilt in meeting the bi-monthly dead-lines of getting the catalogue to print and then posted out, we are severely restricted (for maybe a fortnight every other month) in our ability to keep up with the day-to-day of the operation of the business.

Furthermore, we are increasingly conscious of a major and fundamental weakness of the catalogue; that is, much of the editing of each catalogue is concerned with the selection of what is to go in and what is to be left out of the next edition. Spending so much time deciding on what to exclude is, to our mind, nuts, especially as by spending so much time inhibiting the options available via the cata-

logue, we are not able to spend the time opening up the possibilities of the website; effectively an on-line catalogue facility that does not incur the obvious and inherent limitations of the traditional printed catalogue.

Similarly, for those customers who have been paying the £1 to qualify for first class postage of

the catalogue, this option has now been ended (on the basis that we are no longer strictly timetabling future catalogues).

TELEPHONE ORDERING

Just another reminder that we have recently made changes to

arrangements in relation to telephone ordering.

Essentially, we only now man the telephones to take telephone

orders on Sunday mornings between 10.00am to 1.00pm

With the release of this ‘catalite’ however we will also open on Saturday 27th February (10.00am - 1.00pm).

For reasons beyond our control however, we will not be able to open on Sunday 5th March, so will on this occasion open instead

on Saturday 4th March (again, between 10.00am - 1.00pm).

After this, we will revert again to the now normal opening hours

for taking telephone orders of each Sunday morning only.

For customers who order via our website, through email, by post

or by fax, there is no change so please feel free to continue to order as you have been.

When we are not available to answer the telephone, we do keep our voicemail message system open for customer calls. While this is mostly designed for general messages rather than specific

customer orders, you can place your order here if you wish. This however will only work for small orders, as the telephone mes-

sage service only accommodates short messages (maybe up to a minute). Any call longer than this will be cut-off after the desig-nated time, so long messages and orders may not fully complete.
