KTDC Launches Country's 1st State-Run All-

Woman Hotel i. The hotel named 'Hostess' was launched by Kerala Tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran. A flagship project of the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC). The hotel will come up within six months at the

KTDC complex. ii. Work on India's public sector hotel run entirely by women for women is claimed to be the first such in the country.

WCD Ministry Launches ‘Childline1098’ Contest i. The Ministry of Women and Child Development has launched a contest, #Childline1098, inviting people to share

images of the Childline 1098 logo that they spot at unique locations and send it with a tagline, to mark World Day against Trafficking in Persons on July 30. ii. CHILDLINE is India's first 24-hour, free, emergency phone service for children in need of aid and assistance. At

present, it is operational at 450 locations.

Government Sets Up High-Level Committee To Check Mob Lynching i. Considering the increasing incidents of mob lynching, the Union Government constituted a High-Level Committee chaired by the Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba to

deliberate in the matter and make recommendations. ii. The Secretary, Department of Justice; Secretary,

Department of Legal Affairs; Secretary, Legislative Department; and Secretary, Social Justice and Empowerment are the members of the committee.

Goods and Services Tax: July 1 i. The Government of India has announced that on July 1, it will be celebrated as 'GST Day ' . Union Minister of

Railways, Coal, Finance and Corporate Affairs, Shri Piyush Goyal will be the Chief Guest of this program and the Chairman of the Finance Minister, Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla will preside over this. ii. The Indian government is celebrating the first anniversary of the goods and services tax (GST) being implemented on July 1, 2017.

Jharkhand will set up the country's first khadi mall i. Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das announced that the country's first 'Khadi Mall' will be opened in

Jharkhand. To develop the country's first Khadi Mall, the land of the Heavy Engineering Corporation ( HEC ) premises

will be made available to the Khadi Board. ii. The craftsmen will be provided technical assistance for value addition in their products, while rural, urban and tourism 'hot' will provide them the market for their goods.

Karnataka Budget Announcement: Important Point i. Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy presented

his government's first budget. They announced a agriculture loan exemption of Rs 34,000 crore .

ii. Loans up to Rs 2 lakh for each farmer will be

waived. Within the time, the loan amount paid to farmers repaying the loan or Rs. 25000 will be deposited, whichever

is earlier.

All You Need To Know About Final Draft Of NRC Released By Assam i. Assam released the final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), seven months after it released the first draft on 1 January 2018, which included 1.9 crore names out of a total applicant pool of 3.29 crore. The recently

released list, however, left our 40.07 lakh people wherein 2.89 crore people were found eligible out of 3.29 crore applicants. ii. What is the NRC?

The National Register of Citizens (NRC) is the list of Indian citizens of Assam. It was prepared in 1951, following the census of 1951.

Odisha Government Launches 'Green Mahanadi Mission' i. The Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik launched the 'Green Mahanadi Mission'.The CM launched the mission by planting a sapling on the bank of river Mahanadi during his visit to Boudh and Subarnapur districts in western Odisha. ii. The main objective of the mission is to stop soil erosion on

river banks and recharge the groundwater reserve.

First Indian Tourism Mart will be held in New

Delhi i. First International Tourism Mart will be organized in New Delhi in September 2018 to form a global tourism

mart for India on the lines of the leading international travel mart . Tourism Minister K. J. Alfons has announced that this 3-day long program will boost the country's tourism sector. ii. Mart will provide a forum for stakeholders in tourism and

hospitality industries for negotiation and transaction on tourism opportunities. It will also provide an opportunity for buyers to display world class tourism facilities available in India.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister inaugurated NTPC's solar plant i. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhaninaugurated 250 MW Solar Power Plant of state-run power major National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) in Mandsaur .

ii. According to NTPC, this project has been established

primarily on non-agricultural land and electricity is being

produced without affecting the natural environment system, with zero carbon emissions on investment of Rs 1,500 crore.

Odisha will achieve the country's first Skill Training Center Union Minister for Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan announced that the Center is planning to set up a National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) in each state to meet the growing demand of skilled manpower in the country

Public Affairs Index 2018: Kerala is the most well-known state, Bihar is the worst According to the Public Affairs Index 2018, Kerala is the best governed state in the country, issued by the Bangalore Specialist Group, Public Affairs Center. According to the report, Tamil Nadu, Telangana,

Karnataka and Gujarat are among the top five states to provide good governance. Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha are at the bottom of the index, indicating high social and economic inequalities.

Pakistan Gets Its 1st Woman Chief Justice Of High Court i. Pakistan has got its first-ever woman Chief Justice of a high court. Justice Tahira Safdar was named as the Chief

Justice of the Balochistan High Court by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar. ii. Justice Safdar had made history in 1982 when she became the first woman civil judge in Balochistan.

Asia's first arbitration center will be opened in Tokyo The first mediating center of Asia in intellectual property will be opened in Tokyo in 2018 to resolve the

growing number of disputes in the September area .

Bhutan PM Dasho Shring Tobghe on 3-Day India Tour Bhutan Prime Minister Dasho Shring Tobgay reached New Delhi on a three-day visit to India. During the visit,

Prime Minister Modi's 3-country tour begins - Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for a trip to the three countries of Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa . Shri

Modi will reach Rwanda in the first phase of his five-day journey. India will expand Rwanda's two lines of US $ 100 million for agriculture and industrial areas during a two-

day visit to this country .

BRICS Summit 2018 Concludes: Johannesburg Declaration Adopted i. The heads of state and government of all five BRICS nations including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa convened for the 10th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. The theme of BRICS Summit 2018 was ‘BRICS in Africa: Collaboration for inclusive growth and shared prosperity in the 4th Industrial Revolution'. ii. The summit saw the BRICS leaders come together and

discuss various international and regional issues of common concern and adopted the 'Johannesburg Declaration' by consensus. iii. The declaration comes as the United States and

China remain deadlocked in a trade war over tariffs. Thaawarchand Gehlot Attends Global Disability Summit 2018 In London i. Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment attended the Global Disability Summit held in London, UK. The motto of the Conference

10th BRICS Summit 2018 Begins In Johannesburg i. The 10th edition of BRICS Summit began in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is a 3-day long summit

and will be attended by all the BRICS leaders. ii. The theme for this summit is ‘BRICS in Africa: Collaboration for inclusive growth and shared prosperity in the 4th Industrial Revolution'. Modi is likely to meet

Global Innovation Index: Switzerland at the top, India is 57th The Global Innovation Index (GII) has declared India the 57th most innovative country in the world. The country

has improved its ranking from the 60th position in 2017. India was at 81st in 2015 and India is growing steadily in this order. In the meantime, China improved its ranking from 22 to 21 this year in 2017.

The state under the leadership of Chandrababu Naidu received the top position in the "Isle of Doing Business" ranking released by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Delhi .

BANKING AND FINANCE Banks, Financial Institutions Sign

Agreement To Speed Up Resolution of Bad

Loans i. Nearly two dozen Banks and Financial Institutions,

including SBI and LIC, have signed the inter-creditor

agreement (ICA) framework to speed up the resolution of

stressed assets which are under the 500-crore rupee

bracket.

ii. The framework is part of the Project SASHAKT, the

report on bad bank drafted and submitted by the committee

headed by Non-executive Chairman of PNB, Sunil Mehta.

ii. The objective of ICA is to resolve stressed assets fast, and

will primarily focus on NPAs in the 50 crore to 500 crore bracket.

RBI has licensed the Bank of China license to operate in India. Reserve Bank of India licenses the Bank of China to work

in India . This decision has come as part of Prime Minister Modi's commitment to Chinese leadership. Bank of China will now have operational offices in India. This will be the second Chinese bank to work in the country.

ICICI Bank's mortgage portfolio crosses 1.5 trillion i. ICICI Bank has announced that its mortgage loan portfolio has crossed the milestone of 1.5 trillion , which makes it the largest private player in the segment , and

to increase it to Rs 2 trillion by 20 years as a lender The goal has been kept. ii. At 1.5 trillion rupees, half of the mortgage loan book's total

Reserve Bank of India canceled license of Alwar Urban Cooperative Bank Reserve Bank of India has announced that the license of Alwar Urban Co-operative Bank in Alwar of Rajasthan has been canceled because it is not in a position

to fully pay its depositors after completing their claims due to other reasons. ii. The reasons for the cancellation of the license were, the

bank is not likely to have sufficient capital and earnings, and the relevant provisions of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 have not been followed.

Bharti Infratel, Indus Tower Merger Deal

Gets SEBI Nod i. Mobile tower arm of telecom major Bharti Airtel,

Infratel announced that it has received clearance from SEBI

for its merger with Indus Towers.

ii. It will now approach the National Company Law Tribunal

for its approval. The combined company will own 100% of Indus Towers jointly owned by Bharti Infratel (42% holding), Vodafone (42%), Idea Group (11.15%) and Providence (4.85%).

India First deals with Oxygen i. Joint venture between India First Life Insurance Company Limited, Bank of Baroda, Andhra Bank and

Legal and General (UK) announced its agreement to set up distribution of its insurance products in Oxygen retail outlets with Oxygen Services India Private Limited is. ii. Oxygen is one of the key providers of Money Transfer and

Prepaid Recharge, in which the prepaid recharge amount is

only less than Rs 10. Telecom Department clarifies Vodafone-Idea merger with riders The Telecom Ministry has approved the merger of Vodafone India and Idea Cellular Limited , which will

make the country's largest mobile service operator. The Department of Telecommunications has approved the merger of Vodafone-Idea, but the two companies have to meet the conditions for final approval.

Agreement on exchange of experience by legal professionals between India, UK i. India and the Great Britain have signed an agreement

on the exchange of experience of legal professionals and government workers to resolve the disputes before various courts and tribunals.



ii. The agreement was signed by Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and UK Justice Secretary David Goke in London. iii. The Memorandum has sought to increase bilateral

cooperation in legal matters, which will provide a framework to promote more cooperation between judicial and legal professionals in both countries through exchange of expertise and training.

India, Bangladesh signed revised travel agreement i. India signed a revised travel agreement with Bangladesh to reduce visa restrictions for citizens of neighboring countries, Bangladesh . In the presence of Home Minister Rajnath Singh and his counterpart Asaduzzaman Khan , the agreement between the two

countries was signed in Dhaka.

HCL Technologies displaces Wipro as India‟s third largest IT services firm i. HCL Technologies Ltd surpassed Wipro Ltd to become India‟s third-biggest software services firm in the

three months, marking the first change in the pecking order of the country’s $167 billion information technology (IT) outsourcing industry in six years. ii. Noida-based HCL Technologies announced that its dollar

revenue increased 0.8% to $2.05 billion in the quarter ended 30 June from the preceding three months. Bengaluru-based Wipro’s dollar revenue declined 1.7% sequentially to $2.03 billion in the first quarter.

Vodafone Idea Gets Final Government Approval i. The Department of Telecom (DoT) has given final approval to the merger of Vodafone India and Idea Cellular. RBI gives Airtel payment bank approval for new customers i. Airtel Payments Bank has received the necessary

approval to start taking new customers from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). In addition, the issuing

authority, UIDAI, has allowed it to use the 12-digit unique identification number-based e-KYC. ii. This approval came about seven months after Airtel paid a

deal with Airtel Payments Bank, allegedly for opening its bank accounts, and then the Reserve Bank of India directed Airtel Payments Bank not to include new customers. While the issuing body UIDAI suspended the e-KYC license of both

Airtel and Payal Bank.

Haryana top state in per capita revenue collection under GST i. Under Haryana GST, the per capita revenue collection is at the top of the other states and it is also the fourth largest producer of e-bills in the country. Haryana Finance Minister Abhimanyu claimed that Haryana has increased

tax base by 82.22% and registered a growth of 19% in revenue collection. ii. Between April 1, 2018 and June 30, 2018, about 1.12 crore e-bills were prepared in Haryana, making the state

the fourth largest producer of e-bills in the country.

WPI inflation at the highest level of 4.5 years, an increase of 5.77% in June i. According to the ministry of commerce and industry, in June, India's wholesale inflation rate has increased by 5.77% , which is highest in food and fuel prices in four and a

Concluding the last EPG meeting of Nepal-India The ninth and final meeting of the prestigious person group (EPG) on Nepal-India relations concludes in Kathmandu, Nepal. During the two-day meeting of

delegates from Nepal and India, discussions on various bilateral issues including peace and friendship between

1950, trade, transit and border were discussed. 5th RCEP International Ministerial Meeting held in Tokyo, Japan i. In the 5th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership ( RCEP ) Tokyo, Japan , the informal

ministerial meeting was organized. It was the first RCEP ministerial meeting to be held outside ASEAN countries . ii. Singapore's Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Singh

and his Japanese counterpart Hiroshige Sekko were co-chaired. During the meeting, the Ministers of the Member States made a detailed discussion on issues such as trade, service, investment and regulations.

. First meeting of e-commerce task force held in New Delhi i. Commerce Secretary Rita Tiotia the first meeting of the Task Force on e-commerce in New Delhi presided. The meeting deliberated on the emerging

suggestions from the meetings of the sub-groups held in June 2018. The suggestions were on broad issues such as cross-border data flows, taxation, trade facilitation and logistics, consumer confidence, IPR and future technical, FDI and competition issues. ii. 2013 i. The Corporate Affairs Ministry (MCA) has constituted

Government Reduced Minimum Annual Deposit Under Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme i. The Union Government has reduced the minimum annual deposit requirement for accounts under Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana from Rs 1000 to Rs 250. The minimum initial

deposit to open the account has also been reduced to Rs 250. ii. The move is aimed at enabling more people to take

advantage of the girl child savings scheme. The government has amended the Sukanya Samriddhi Account Rules, 2016 for the purpose.

Maharashtra Government announces 'Kanya Van Samrudhi Yojana' i. The Maharashtra government has announced a new scheme called 'Kanya Van Samrudhi Yojana' , in which

the girl-born farmer family will be given plantation plants for plantation . ii. The objective of this scheme is to empower women and

Olympic Medalists To Now Receive Rs 20,000 Pension Per Month i. Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore announced that the rate of pension for sportspersons who have won medals in international competitions and have retired from active sports has been

doubled from April 1. At present, the government gives lifelong pension to 588 players under the scheme of ‘Pension to Meritorious Sportspersons.' ii. According to the revised rates, Olympic and Para Olympic medallists will get a sum of Rs 20,000 per month each, while gold medallists at World Cups and World

Championships in Olympic and Asian Games disciplines will receive Rs 16,000 per month.
