IFP branch Programme 2011 | 3

Welcome

Welcome to the regional programme of events for 2011. Please take some time to look through this to help plan your year, and don’t forget that whilst we know

you like to support your local branch, you can also attend any meeting nationally.

I would like to start off by thanking the branch chairs and staff at the IFP for the hard work that goes into putting together a branch programme for you. The branch meetings are where we can spend quality time with our fellow planners and gain knowledge from their success stories, as well as their practical mistakes. It is also a logical place to find like minded people to form groups to create and share ideas as well as form friendships so that when you need to pick up the phone or meet for a coffee to talk something through, there is a community there ready and willing to help.

Whilst there is value enough in these meetings, there are a wide range of speakers available sharing their knowledge with you and providing you with the opportunity to ask those questions you maybe don’t get the chance to at larger events. They also go towards your CPD credits!

The IFP is famous for its friendly and sharing attitude, support your local branch and become the next generation of planners to continue this tradition.

Rebecca Taylor FIFP, CFPCM Chairman of Membership Committee

Setting IFP members apart

Continuing ProfessionalDevelopment (CPD)

To get started, visit http://cpd.financialplanning.org.uk and login using your IFP member login details. For queries or to arrange an online demonstration email [email protected].

According to the FSA consultation papers on the subject, annual CPD activity should cover standards of ethical behaviour relevant to an individual’s particular job/role; the arrangements for maintaining competence should involve measurable objectives, targets and outcomes, and should cover the core subjects of regulation, ethics, investment principles and risk, personal taxation, practical application of knowledge and specialist expertise. It should aim to address any ‘gaps’ in the individual’s technical knowledge.

CPD arrangements should involve the evaluation of the success of the activity in meeting the objectives, targets and outcomes, and examples of good practice might include competing a forward-looking CPD plan each year, maintaining some form of CPD activity log (available to all stakeholders), and evaluating learning outcomes for each activity. The IFP’s Online CPD system covers all of these requirements.

Don’t forget to record your CPD points on the IFP’s CPD Online system. It has been designed to help you to identify and record your CPD activities (both structured and unstructured) in a simple and user friendly way.

The key benefits

•Aneasilyaccessibleplatform, free to members•Record, reviewandreportCPD activities easily•ExportcomprehensiveCPD records into a spreadsheet for ease of reporting•Benefitfromusefulshared resources posted by other members to aid learning•UsetheCourseSearcherfacility to identify courses, workshops and seminars
