Transcript of Bran castle

• The castle is located in Transylvania less than 30 km from Brașov. Initial in this place there was a castle fortress with military purposes was transformed into a castle in 1920.

• Surrounded by an aura of mystery and legend and perched high atop a 200-foot-high rock, Bran Castle owes its fame to its imposing towers and turrets as well as to the myth created around Bram Stocker's Dracula. From 1920 to 1957 Bran served as royal residence, a gift of the people of Brașov to Queen Marie of Romania. The castle is now a museum open to tourists, displaying art and furniture collected by Queen Marie.

• Bram Stoker’s character, Dracula, is a Transylvanian Count with a castle located high above a valley perched on a rock with a flowing river below in the Principality of Transylvania.

Dracula – as he is perceived today – is a fictitious character whose name derives from the appellation given to Vlad Tepes, the ruler of Wallachia from 1456-1462 and 1476, and who, for largely political reasons, was depicted by some historians of that time as a blood-thirsty ruthless despot.

• Stoker’s Count Dracula is a centuries-old vampire, sorcerer, and Transylvanian nobleman, he inhabits a decaying castle in the Carpathian Mountains.

• Narrow winding stairways lead through some 60 timbered rooms, many connected by underground passages, which house collections of furniture, weapons and armor dating from the 14th to the 19th centuries. The castle overlooks the picturesque village of Bran, which offers an open-air Ethnographic Museum consisting of old local-style village houses complete with furniture, household objects and costumes.

• Inside the castle we find the narrow corridors arranged in a maze, rooms in all parts, go through the door and later, walking us through the castle, we arrive again at the same place.

The doors are low, that sometimes you need to lean. Climb the stairs and get to a room, but under the stairs is another door that would lead us to the same place.

• In addition to what we find inside the castle, outside it is an impressive garden with lots of flowers and fruit trees, which belonged to Queen Mary and that there was a lake trout and a few swans.
