The human brain starts working themoment you are born and never stopsuntil you stand up to speak in public
The right half of the brain controlsthe left half of the body. This meansthat only left handed people are intheir right mind"
It is good to rub and polish ourbrain against that of others"

Brains for Instinct
Lower animals (fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds) do not do much "thinking," butinstead concern themselves with theeveryday business of gathering food, eating, drinking, sleeping, reproducing
and defending themselves. These areinstinctual processes Therefore, theirbrains reflect the major centers thatcontrol these functions.
We perform these functions as well, andso have a "reptilian" brain built into us.This involves the same brain parts of thebrain found in reptiles, namely theBrainstem and the Cerebellum.

The Higher Brain - Cerebral Cortex
The Cerebrum is the largest part of the human brain
Contains all of the centers that receive and interpretsensory information, initiate movement, analyze
information, reason and experience emotions.
The centers for these tasks are located in differentparts of the cerebral cortex, which is the outsidelayer of the cerebrum and is comprised ofgraymatter.
The inside is made up ofwhite matter.

Major Parts of the Cerebral Cortex
The Gyri (elevation) & Sulci(depression)
Several large sulci divide the cerebral
cortex into various lobes:
1.Frontal lobe
2.Parietal lobe
3.Occipital lobe and
4.Temporal lobe

(Touching)
Two major divisions
Anterior and posterior
Senses hot and cold,
hard and soft, and pain.
Taste and smell
Helps integrate the senses

Taking sides.two sides that is!
Two sides or hemispheres of the brain:LEFT and RIGHT
We have two cerebral hemispheresconnected by the corpus callosum.
This is a bundle of nerves that allows eachside of the brain to communicate with eachother.
Each side of the brain processes things
differently.
It is an outdated assumption that artsy typepeople are right-brained.

how the two sides process
information that is!Left Brain
Logical Sequential
Rational
Analytical Objective
Looks at parts
Right Brain
Random Intuitive
Holistic
Synthesizing Subjective
Looks at wholes

Left Hemisphere
Processes things more in parts andsequentially
Recognizes positive emotions
Identified with practicality and rationality
Understands symbols and representations
Processes rapid auditory information fasterthan the right (crucial for separating thesounds of speech into distinct units for
comprehension) Is responsible for language development. It
develops slower in boys, that is why malesusually develop more language problemsthan females.

Right Hemisphere
Recognizes negative emotions
High level mathematicians, problem solvers, andchess players use
The non-verbal side
Responds to touch and music (sensory)
Intuitive
Responsive to color and shape
Emotional and originative

The Brain is Like Real Estate
All that matters is location,
location and location !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Symptoms depend on the area of
the brain involved, not thedisease.
Brain tumors, strokes, head
injuries can all present with the
same symptoms because of the
area of the brain involved.

Layers of the Brain
The human brain is organized into
3 interconnected layers:
Central Core : Brain for Instinct
Limbic System
