Principal’s News
A big Congratulations to all students for their efforts at the recent Cross County
carnivals. Staff were impressed by the commitment of each and every student to
achieve their personal best, with some finishing the distance for the first time. The
commitment by all team members and the support shown to each other was a key
element of our success in winning the Interschool event.
On Friday the 27th of May, 20 students
from Braeside traveled to Narrogin to
compete in the Narrogin District Cross
Country Event. The year 4's had to run
2km's and the year 5's and 6's ran 2.5km's.
As a school, we came 5th.
Zoe Keley won her race beating 33 other
year 4 girls from around the district. This is
only the second time ever that a Braeside
student has won an individual event at the
Narrogin Cross Country. Other notable
results were Bodhi Anyon who finished 5th,
Tyson D'Aprile who finished 8th and
Chayce McKenzie who finished 7th.
Well done on everyone's efforts and good
luck to all participating in the Interschool
this Friday.

Winter Carnival and Good Standing:
As a staff we have determined that Winter Carnival is not a part of the core curriculum. As a
result we have set a series of good standing parameters around attendance at the carnival.
Students will receive a letter today, which they will be required to sign. Parents will also
receive a copy of the letter, the letter will outline where your child is in regards to the
number of yellow and blue slips. If you have any questions in regards to this, please contact
Mrs Wigg. The Good Standing event at the end of term continues in the current format.
Children not eligible to attend good standing will receive a letter outlining this.
Parent Survey:
Attached to the newsletter today is a copy of the parent survey. Parents are also able to
complete this online by following the directions on the front page of the survey, typing in
the relevant details. I encourage all parents and caregivers to complete the survey as it
gives the School Council input in relation to future directions. When returned and placed in
the sealed box in the front office, children will be able to pick from a basket of school items
to support their learning, these have been donated by Woolworths. If you choose to
complete the survey online, please add a note to your child’s diary and they can also access
the basket of goodies. As a school, we are aiming to have 90 surveys returned.
School Council:
School Council will meet again Wednesday afternoon to examine the result of the recent
survey on the School Council. We thank everyone for their input, the information will be
used to direct future planning towards the Independent Public School selection process. As
a group future meetings will look at the Parent survey results and the review of the school
Behaviour Management Policy. Please feel free to contact your School Council
representative and discuss either of these areas, this input will drive future policy directions.
Newsletter note takers:
Last term we trialled note takers being the youngest member of each family. This had a
range of problems, so we have decided to change back to the oldest sibling taking notes
home. Parents who wish to have the newsletter emailed can contact the office and have it
sent on the Tuesday newsletters are distributed.
Parent Interviews:
Attached to this newsletter is a form for parents to complete requesting a parent interview.
Interviews will be held from 2.30-4.30pm on Monday 27th June . If this time is unsuitable,
please contact your classroom teacher to make an alternative time. Parents will have
received reports on the Friday before. Interviews are a good opportunity to seek
clarification, receive more information or just to touch base with the classroom teacher.

The Arts News
Students in the junior classes have been working with various themes.
Pre-primary and Year 1 have been working with stories. We had fun with
making crocodiles as in Crunch the Crocodile. Year ½ and 2 have been
looking at mini beasts.
Year 3 have been concentrating on farm animals and year 4 have been
looking at the French Artist, Monet, where they have had a go at creating
his water lily garden.
Other classes have been busy studying various aspects of Modern Art,
from Op Art to Pop Art.
Many thanks to Parents and community members who keep us supplied
with recycled items. We are in need of more egg cartons, onion and
orange bags (ideal for weaving) and cardboard tubes. Please send to
school with your child or drop off in the Art room.
Now that most of the major interruptions are completed we have started
Choir again at lunch times. Tuesday is for Junior Choir years 1, 2 and 3
and Thursday for Senior Choir. A note will be going home with those
interested students.
Here are a few samples from the years 5 and 6. Students
I was born in the country and grew up on a farm in the Wheatbelt at a little place called Jacobs Well. (Between Quairading and Beverley).I remember having an epiphany moment at about 9 years of wanting to be a teacher. After year 12 I went to Teachers College at Mount Lawley College of Advanced Education. I majored in Visual Art and also Performing Arts with a minor in Environmental Science. My first posting was year 7 at Goomalling District High, when the numbers went down I moved to Dowerin District High where I taught year 4/5's. I then had the opportunity to also teach Art/Music and Drama for many years. When we moved to Katanning my first position was at the High School teaching various subjects. I also had the opportunity to teach at Coorlinga and then Katanning Primary. Finally the opportunity to teach at Braeside became available. As a working mum it was lovely to be at the same school when two of our three sons were there. Now I'm a grandma and still at Braeside doing what I have always loved. Some may shudder but I have been very fortunate to spend most of my life at school!!!

The School Dental Service (SDS) is a state-wide service operated by Dental Health Services (DHS) as part of
the Western Australian Department of Health that provides free general dental care to enrolled school children aged 5 – 16
years, or to the end of year 11, whichever occurs first.
The staff at the Katanning Dental Therapy Centre (DTC), have returned from their mobile run and are attempting to
examine and treat the children attending schools in Katanning. New DHS Policy requires parents to be present at some of
the appointments in order for informed consent to be gained. Staff have had significant problems with contacting parents
for appointments, resulting in many missed appointments and loss of valuable appointment time.
If you wish your child to be seen, please ensure you notify the DTC of any change of telephone number or address so that
the staff can contact you.
Please provide the following;
Child’s full name Child’s date of birth Name of school and year Correct address Correct telephone number Name of carer
Please post to or email [email protected]

Hello, my name is Emily Bettoni and I am the Year 4 classroom
teacher. I started at Braeside last year sharing the year 5
classroom with Miss McCarley as well as doing relief work in other
classes. I am originally from Kalgoorlie and I grew up in Pemberton
later moving to Perth to pursue my studies. My favourite thing to do
in the classroom is read with the children because I love books and
love to see the whole class enjoying a story! I am thoroughly
enjoying my time at Braeside and look forward to what’s to come.

If you are interested in assisting and would like further details, please
contact the Red Cross on (08) 9726 6700 or [email protected]
