Eaton's range of Capitole low voltage Systems have been

specifically designed and developed to meet requirements

of the highest international safety standards, guaranteed

operational reliability and demand for equipment requiring

little or no maintenance.

The Capitole 40 Motor Control Centre is valued internationally forit's application oriented characteristics, such as full compart -mentation and highest form of segregation and insulation. Othercharacteristics are it's optional fault-free zone between incomingand outgoing feeders, as well as the system's flexibility, includingthe ability to quickly carry-out on-site changes, even under serviceconditions.

Eaton introduces a new development for the Capitole 40 systemcalled "Mechanical Test Position". This design allows for safetesting of the secondary circuit and insertion and withdrawal of the functional unit behind a closed door. It also allows for adisconnected/isolated position where all main and auxiliarycontacts are open creating a safe maintenance environment.

Available positions for each unit

The withdrawable units with Mechanical Test Position are designed around safety andreliability. With this new option operators can safely insert or remove units under “live” systemwith all functional components behind a closed door. This safely protects the operator fromthe potential hazards of an arc flash.

Disconnected position

When inserting a withdrawable unit first open the compartmentdoor. The withdrawable unit can be inserted into the disconnectedposition when the lever is in the right “disconnected” position. Inthis position the withdrawable unit is partly withdrawn from thedistribution bars, main disconnect is open, main and control circuitsare disconnected.

Test position

When the compartment door is closed and when the maindisconnect is in the “off” position the lever can be movedtowards the “test” position. In this position the main contactspins are separated from the scissor contacts (both verticalbusbar system and outgoing cable connection) and the auxiliarybusbar contacts and auxiliary contacts are closed. In this positionit is possible to check the control loop from DCS to functionalunit and back to the DCS.

A Safe and Reliable Mechanical Test Position

Increased safety

Capitole 40 Mechanical Test Position has been tested to meet thecriteria 1-7 of the IEC/TR 61641 even when inserting (from Test toConnected) behind the closed door, safely protecting the operator fromhazards of arc flash. The defined area as per IEC/TR 61641 is limited toonly one functional unit.

Very reliable

Capitole 40 Mechanical Test Position has easily passed the IEC 61439test with 500 inserts/withdrawals without need for maintenance where the IEC 61439 only asks for 200 inserts/withdrawals.

Compatible with Capitole 40 standard design (current version)

Capitole 40 Mechanical Test Position is using many same parts as the Classic Capitole 40 system (e.g. main and vertical busbars, scissor contacts, auxiliary busbar system, auxiliary contact block).

Installed Classic Capitole 40 systems can be upgraded to the Capitole 40 with Mechanical Test Position.

Connected position

Connected - OFF

When the unit is in “test” position it can be moved to the“connected” position by moving the lever to the left.

In the Connected - OFF position, the main disconnect is open, main and control circuits are connected and padlocking on the main disconnect is possible.

By closing the main disconnect the unit is brought to theConnected - ON position.

Connected - ON

In the Connected - ON position, the main disconnect is closed, the main and control circuits are connected.

All 3 positions are clearly marked by the position of the lever. When theunit is in disconnected position it is indicated by the blue indication tothe side of the functional unit.

The units are fully withdrawable without using tools. The differentpositions of withdrawable parts (removed, disconnected/isolated, test and connected) are achieved in accordance with table 103 of theIEC 61439-2.

Capitole 40 Mechanical Test Position offers IP31 in disconnected andtest position and IP41 in connected position.

Additional safety for disconnected position

A padlock facility is available which can be used for safe working procedures (avoid incidentally switching on indisconnected postion).
