Building Stock Inventory

There are 475,000,000 m² of building floor area in Portugal (PT), out of which 78.36% are located in residential buildings. In the non-residential stock, the total floor area sums up to 93,800,000 m². The non-residential stock is distributed across different building types as follows: Offices 26.30%, Educational buildings 20.99%, Hospitals 7.35%, Hotels & Restaurants 12.68%, Sport facilities 4.20%, Wholesale and retail trade 28.48% and other types of energy-consuming buildings 1.90%.

Building Stock Performance

The total final energy consumption of the building sector in Portugal (PT) was 2,980 toe for the residential sector and 1,950 toe for the services in 2010 (Eurostat data). Consumption levels in homes ranged from 109.00 to 285.00 kWh/m². Insulation values in the existing buildings range from 0.50 to 2.00 W/m²K for walls, 0.62 to 2.10 W/m²K for floors, 0.48 to 3.10 W/m²K for roofs and 2.80 to 5.00 W/m²K for windows.
