Once in a Life Time Experience
By Garrett Severe
Eva Kor is a survivor of the Holocaust. When she was
ten years old, she and her family were taken by the
Nazis. They put her and her twin sister in Auschwitz
concentration camp which was the worst camp to.
Twins were used for experimenting. Eva and her twin
got injected with germs and bacteria, and she still
does not know what she was injected with. One time
after the injection, she got really sick. She had a bad
fever. She got so weak that she had to crawl on the
floor to get around, and get water. The doctor thought
that she would be dead in two weeks, but she came out of her sickness because
she was determined to rejoin her sister.
All of the inmates got one slice of bread a day, which was given to them at night.
The piece of bread was not enough to survive on for very long, so they had to
“organize” or steal from the Nazis. She would steal raw potatoes and boil them for
her and her sister.
Eva and her sister were in the camp for about eight and a half months. They both
walked out of the camp alive. Eva is now eighty three years old. Her twin sister
Miriam died in 1993 because the injections that she got in the concentration camp
stunted her kidneys so they could not grow bigger than a ten year old girl’s. Eva is
now living in living in Indiana. She travels all over the world to give her life experi-
ence.
The juniors and seniors were fortunate enough to see her in Miles City on April
24th. Approximately 3,000 people from around the area attended. Besides her talk,
we witnessed a candle lighting ceremony and observed a minute of silence at

Easter Classic
By Joe Griswold
Some of the basketball boys went to a tournament in
Reed Point called The Easter Classic. The team consisted
of Thomas DeJaegher, Vitor Gabriel, Vinnie Machado,
Joe Griswold, Harry Griswold, Carson Hein, Matlock
Morrison, Shayden Cooke, Ty Meredith, Davon Mere-
dith, and Holden Roskelley. This team crushed the
Bridger and Huntley teams by more than twenty points
each. They were in the chipper against Big Timber.
While both sides battled over the ball, we lost by five
points when the final score said 45-50. Even though
they lost the championship, everyone was in a good
mood as they bragged about their layups, threes, and
steals.

Attention All Melstone
Community Members:
Submitted by the Town of Melstone
Spring is here and summer is approaching fast! The
Town of Melstone takes pride in our community and
the appearance of this great community.
We would greatly appreciate it if all community mem-
bers took time this April and May to properly come into
compliance with Melstone’s Decay Ordinance 2003-5.
This means cleaning up all junk visible on personal
property as well as keeping your property mowed and
the weeds contained. This is also a fire and safety meas-
ure for our community.
If you have any questions concerning Decay Ordinance
2003-5 or how to come into compliance, please contact
the City Office at 358-2301 or stop in.
We are striving to have all community members
come into compliance by July 1, 2017!
FFA: Winding Down
Summited by Abby Hansen
As most of you know back in March, our chapter went
to Great Falls for the state FFA convention. The kids
competed in many competitions such as Livestock Judg-
ing, Sales and Service, Farm Business Management, and
Mechanics. Senior, Deva Bascom placed 5th in the Sales
and Services competition.
Coming up the first of May, CDE days will be held with
kids competing in Food Science, Ag Marketing, Floricul-
ture, Horse Judging, and Forestry. They are currently
practicing and getting prepared. For the elementary, our
chapter will be having Barnyard Olympics, which is just
a fun and educational day for the young kids. On May
4th after the drama play, we are having the FFA lock in.
Mr. Pierce will be announcing the dates for the new
officer interviews sometime soon, so be on the lookout
for that.
Finally, it’s that time of the year again: The activities
banquet is right around the corner in May. Be sure to
come to that if you like good people and good food.
On behalf of the Melstone officer team and the chap-
ter, thank you for your support.

Hoping for the Best on the ACT’s
By Joe Griswold
American College Testing (ACT) evaluates
teenagers all over the United States to see
if they’re ready for college. Every year in
Montana juniors take the ACT once for
free. Students can take the ACT anytime for a fee.
This year the juniors consisted of Gillian Severe, Garrett
Severe, Joe Griswold, Dwight DeJaegher, Gracey Adams,
Shayla Hough, Vinnie Machado, and Franka Johne.
Testing from 8:00 a.m. to 12:55 p.m., the juniors braved
the test with only headaches and empty stomachs in
the end. One junior (Shayla Hough) who took the test
this year, remarked, “It wasn’t as bad as we all
thought.” A senior (BreElle Wacker) remembered her
first time taking the ACT quoting, “It was terrible!” After
the ACT is over and a waiting period of five to eight
weeks, we get our results.

Burn Permits
Submitted by Hester Jacobs
In Musselshell County, Pursuant to MCA 7-33-2205,
the county governing body requires written permits for
all open burning within county jurisdiction. The signed
permit is good for two (2) years from the date of issu-
ance or up to January 2018 whichever occurs first. The
permit will be signed and kept for records with the dis-
aster and Emergency Services (DES) Coordinator/ Coun-
ty Fire Warden.
The permit holder must obtain verbal permission to
activate his/her burn permit each time he/she kindles a
fire throughout the two (2) year period, from Mus-
selshell County Dispatch Center.
Burn permits are only issued on days when weather
conditions are conducive to controlling a fire. Burn
permits are not issued during dry spells, windy days or
other conditions that would make it difficult to control
a fire.
An open burning permit may be suspended or revoked
at any time when conditions warrant, or when the per-
mit holder is in non-compliance with the Musselshell
County Burn permit resolution (2015-16) The County
Fire Warden and County Fire Chief has the authority to
discontinue any open burn. This permit maybe can-
celled or revoked for violation of any cause, at any
time, and you will be burning illegally. Under the provi-
sion of MCA 50-63-103 You Are Liable for any and all
fire suppression costs, or damages resulting from an
escaped or uncontrollable fire. Minimum restitution for
fire suppression costs will be $350.00.
In both cases (Musselshell and Rosebud), people
should call Tim as Fire Chief to tell him they are
burning. Also, even with permission to burn, if the
fire gets out of control and the fire departments are
called in, landowners may be liable for the expense
of fighting the fire.
In Rosebud County, no paperwork is required, but to
open burn you must call the sheriff’s office at (406)
346-2715 and tell them where and what you are burn-
ing. They will tell you whether you have permission to
burn.

The Jolly Green Giant Comes to
Melstone
By Joe Griswold
A new kid has come to Melstone,
and he stands six foot and eight
inches tall. His name is Carson Hein.
Carson came to school from Forsyth,
and Carson thinks that “Melstone is
a better school than Forsyth.” Carson
has two sisters, Laura and Lindsey,
who are nineteen and thirteen, re-
spectively. Carson isn’t the only guy
in the family; he has a dog who is a Blue Heeler Border
Collie. Carson’s favorite class so far is P.E.; his favorite
food is hamburgers, and his shoe size is eleven.
