Student Government Association

Mission

• The Student Government Association (SGA) is an elected and appointed group of students with representative powers in the school and in the community. Some goals of the Student Government are to: ▫ represent the interests of the student body in school-

related decisions ▫ keep the student body informed of relevant issues ▫ coordinate student activities that increase school

spirit and create a positive atmosphere ▫ maintain a positive relationship between the

students and the community

Membership

• To be an elected member of a class, or to be an elected member of the SGA Board, students must campaign. The student body then votes for the candidates to serve as President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.

• To be a member of the SGA class (Senator), students must complete the Senator Application and have at least a 2.0 GPA.

• Even if students are not an elected member or a student SGA Senator, the SGA encourages your help and participation at all SGA sponsored events!

Registration Process and Procedures

• Students will meet with their counselor in the

Spring and register for the classes they would like to take.

• Counselors will select classes for students who do not submit a form, and the students will not be able to make changes.

• Students must apply for AP classes and adhere to the deadlines.

• There will be no FAST Tests this year.

• There will be various unit tests introduced to the 10th

Grade curriculum as they are developed by PGCPS

• Students are being prepared to transition to the

PARCC Assessment (And have already taken the

PGCPS Pre-Tests)

• Students will be taking the PARCC Assessment

towards the end of the 2013-2014 school year.

Hall Biology, Kenneth Miller and Joseph Levine. The textbook can be accessed online at www.phschool.com using the web code CAE-0610.

There are several supplemental resources teachers use in the classroom to support instruction, including the HSA Biology Resource Book, HSA Biology Lab Manual, and the Preparing for the Maryland Biology HSA (often called the "green book")

The Biology High School Assessment is given in late-May, three hours in length, and designed to measure school and individual students progress towards Maryland's High School Core Learning Goals.

This year the exam will be administered May 20, 2014.

Traditionally the Biology High School Assessment contained multiple choice questions, called selected responses and questions requiring written responses, also known as brief constructed responses (BCRs), however this year BCRs will be removed from the exam. These questions are based on the content outlined in Maryland's Core Learning Goals.

400 is a passing score for Biology

LSN GOVERNMENT

LSN Government Facts

• Is required for graduation

• Has an HSA test (May 19)

• Covers local, state, and national government

• Tests are 50% of the grade (set by County)

• Requires that students study

• Teachers offer tutoring after school

Government HSA

• Passing the test is not required for this year’s 10th

grade, however, students must take the test

• Will contain writing (5-10 constructed responses)

• The score will appear on each

student’s transcript

• Can be used to reach composite

score of 1602

• Is a test that can be studied for

Things to Remember

• While the Government HSA may be emphasized

and talked about a lot, there is nothing going

on in Government class that would not be in

any good Government course

• Each student is given a syllabus for each unit.

Students should complete the reading by the

date listed. All test dates are listed on the

syllabus.
