Bottle Buddy There are many famous people who have come from Alabama. Redland 4 th Graders will research these famous individuals and create a “Museum of Famous Alabamians”. This project consists of two parts: a report and a Bottle Buddy Statue. (Grading rubric on back of this sheet.) Choose a famous Alabamian and research their life. You can find your information using books from the library, the Internet, encyclopedias (electronic or standard), etc. The report must contain the following information about the famous Alabamian: Date of birth and death (if applicable) Where in Alabama he/she is from What type of education he/she received What made him/her famous Bottle buddies are bottles that are emptied and cleaned. They are then decorated to look like your famous Alabamian. They can represent someone from the past or the present. The bottle can be decorated with an actual picture of the famous Alabamian’s face attached to the top of the bottle by the threads. You can add yarn for hair, eyebrows, and mustache. The bottom of the bottles can be just plain, or you can add shoes/feet. Here are some suggested items you may want to use to help you: 1 plastic bottle (medium-sized dish detergent bottle or large soda bottles) 1 Styrofoam ball or large wooden bead for head (a dolls head also works) scrap fabric for clothes wiggle eyes (optional) dirt or sand to fill 1/4 of bottle yarn/string/ fake hair paint glue scissors 1. Clean and thoroughly dry the plastic bottle. 2. Fill 1/4 of the bottle with dirt or sand to stabilize it. 3. Place Styrofoam ball or wooden bead on top of bottle to form head. Decorate the "head" to represent the famous person and glue it to the body. 4. Construct arms for the bottle person by using pipe cleaners, cardboard, or other items and fix (glue) them in place. 5. Use scrap fabric to construct an outfit for the bottle person that would be typical of what was worn during the famous person's life. Glue on bottle. 6. You can add items that they person might have used during their lifetime.

Bottle Buddy

There are many famous people who have come from Alabama. Redland 4th Graders will research these famous individuals and create a “Museum of Famous Alabamians”. This project consists of two parts: a report and a Bottle Buddy Statue. (Grading rubric on back of this sheet.)

There are many famous people who have come from Alabama. Redland 4th Graders will research these famous individuals and create a “Grocery Store of Famous Alabamians”.

� of cereal must include the person’s name. � Include a picture of person. � Include creative details describing the person. � (You may include pictures/graphics of objects related to this person.)

� Write a paragraph describing who your person is and why he/she is famous. Use your own words. This is best typed on the computer.

� Create a timeline of important events about your famous Alabamian. Use bullet points, dates, or numbers to list them. This is best typed on the computer.

� Make a game, puzzle, maze, riddles, comic strip, mail-away order, website ad, or any other appropriate activity that may be seen on the back of a cereal box. Be creative!

� Make sure the activity is about your person’s life or accomplishments.

� Bibliography (include title of the book, author, and publishing date)

� Include your full name and the reason you chose this person.
