2013The Botanic Garden at OSU is
pleased to provide Stillwater andthe surrounding communities a
variety of childrens programs in
2013 that are recommended for
ages 312. The programs lead the
children to understand the
connections among people, plants
and the environment.
Each program will be coordinated
by teams of The Botanic Garden
Ambassadors who bring diverse
knowledge and talents to these
programs.

GardenFest2013
Saturday, September 21
10:00am 4:00pm
Join us for our annual Gardenfest. Our
garden will be alive with garden lovers and
their families from throughout the state. The
day will include a variety of demonstraons,
garden vendor booths, food, and childrens
cra events. There is no charge for aending
although donaons are encouraged to helpsupport connued educaonal programming.
This is a must to get on everyones calendar.

June 15Leaf Painng-Understanding
Natures Diversity
During a walk through the garden, each child
will select leaves of their choice and learn
their plant names. Then, they will paint theleaves and, using them as stamps, prepare
collages to take home for framing or
to put on a bullen board.
July 6Creepy Crawlies and Fliers in the
Garden
Who lives in a garden? Children will walk
through the garden in search of insects, bugs,
worms, bueries and birds. Then, they will
learn the role each of these creatures play in
the garden and ways to aract those resi-
dents who are welcome.
July 20Bird Life in Oklahoma
Using color photos, the children will learn of
the most common birds found in Oklahoma
during the summer and be asked to look for
them in their own yards and surrounding
elds. Then, each child will paint a small
decorave bird house for display in their
homes or backyards.
September 7Garden Wonders
Students will experience a eld trip through
the garden as they see the diversity of colors,
textures, shapes, and scents. Included will be
photo comparisons of the plants, shrubs, and
trees that demonstrate how they have
changed throughout the summer growing
season.
September 21GardenFest
On this day, the garden will be alive with garden
lovers and their families from throughout the

October 5Designing Garden Criers
Children will be asked to don their creavity
hats. Then, with pine cones, pipe cleaners,
grasses, and leaves in hand, each child wil l de-
sign criers that match their nature fantasies.

Children are invited to come out and enjoy
books on nature topics read by our gardenAmbassadors. No charge

May 4Building a Fairy Garden
Join the Ambassadors as they design
and build a fairy garden to reside in
The Botanic Garden during the sum-
mer for all to enjoy. Then, using
your imaginaon and materials sup-
plied, you will build your own fairy
garden to reside at your house.
May 18Mr. McGregors Vegetable
Garden
Prepare and plant a vegetable gar-
den dedicated to the childrens pro-
gram. Get those hands dirty prepar-
ing the soil, planng, mulching, and
watering! Then, return home with
an understanding of ideas for ones
personal vegetable garden.
June 1Baking a Successful Flower
Garden
The key to successful gardening is anunderstanding of the proper mix of
soil, light, heat, and water. Children
will parcipate in hands-on acvies
and a walk through the garden ex-
ploring the results of garden condi-
ons. Then, they will all pot one
shade and one sun plant to take
home and observe in their personal
ower beds.
