OverviewGlaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide, with an estimated 70 million people currently affected by the condition. Advances in imaging have facilitated earlier glaucoma diagnosis and subsequent timely initiation of therapy, potentially reducing irreversible blindness as well as loss of quality of life. However, many patients with glaucoma remain at risk for disease progression due to inadequate control of intraocular pressure (IOP), which may be related to inadequacy of current therapy options or lack of adherence to treatment regimens that consist of multiple therapies. Therapies for glaucoma either increase outflow or decrease production of aqueous humor to reduce IOP, but IOP must be tightly controlled to provide optimal patient outcomes. In this activity, experts in the field will review and evaluate the latest clinical evidence for the safety and efficacy of current, new, and emerging classes of therapy, as well as discuss their mechanisms of action, and provide clinical insights into the effective management of IOP with presentation of patient case studies.
LearNiNG ObjecTiveSUpon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
• Assess the benefits and limitations of current options for ocular hypertension and primary open-angle glaucoma.
• Investigate emerging therapies that offer a unique mechanism of action for the treatment of glaucoma.
• Review new clinical evidence pertaining to safety and efficacy of the latest conventional agents and investigational therapeutics for the treatment of glaucoma.
TarGeT audieNceThe intended audience for this activity is ophthalmologists and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with glaucoma.
