Managing temporary international migration to meet the project demands of a French manufacturerWhen a French metal-parts manufacturing company couldn’t find the skilled welders it needed for a six-month project, Manpower France put its resources to work. Locally, there was a shortage of qualified candidates, but with Manpower’s global footprint and cross-border expertise, we located skilled workers with the right training and experience for the job.

Manpower found 12 Polish welders to temporarily relocate for the duration of the project and assisted with housing and permits. After the workers were placed, Manpower supported the client and the workers with additional resources, such as on-the-job translators to address language barriers. This arrangement worked so well that the welders were asked to extend their engagement, both with the client and with other French companies.

Providing critical skills under tight deadlines for Lockheed Martin Middle East ServicesLockheed Martin Middle East Service (LMMES), a virtual support services extension of the Royal Saudi Air Force, was challenged to recruit technical maintenance and non-technical staff under the pressure of a very tight deadline. Failure to fill all positions by the deadline would mean a monetary penalty, and LMMES was having difficulty finding workers with the right skills and qualifications. Manpower worked with LMMES to find the required talent to meet this urgent demand.

Manpower recruited, screened and evaluated candidates from the Philippines and provided the additional support necessary for this project, including arranging required medical exams in accredited clinics and processing visas in just two to three days. Manpower supplied a cost-effective and timely solution for LMMES, allowing the company to focus on its key strategic and business priorities for the Royal Saudi Air Force.

Leveraging international recruitment to help Nortura meet seasonal demandIn Norway, the meat processing industry faces seasonal peaks each summer and fall, and a shortfall in staff during this period could mean that producers miss the opportunity to generate maximum revenue. Because the demand for skilled butchers surpassed the domestic supply, Nortura, the leading meat and egg producer of Norway, worked with Manpower to fill this critical gap in its workforce.

Manpower Norway located experienced butchers for Notura in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Portugal and assisted in relocating these workers to fill the short-term needs of the company. Manpower provided additional support by assisting with work permits, accommodations, bank accounts, language and hygiene training and followed up with the client and candidates after the program to ensure it was a success. Manpower’s global network helps coordinate and expand this yearly effort to ensure that our client has the right talent to meet increased demand.

Improving maintenance productivity and vehicle availability for the Australian Defence ForceStrategic migration can take place within national borders. When Robertson Barracks, a military base in Northern Territory, Australia, faced a shortage of workers and a backlog of repair and maintenance on Australian Defence Force (ADF) equipment, the Joint Logistics Unit (JLU) called Manpower. The ADF required that the workers be Australian citizens with specific vehicle mechanic skills. Manpower couldn’t source these workers near the Robertson Barracks, so it tapped into extensive national footprint to recruit remotely, even in areas without a Manpower branch office. Manpower Australia found skilled mechanics and technicians to fly in and work on an as-needed basis. To ensure that candidates experienced positive working conditions during their assignments, Manpower provided additional support, including arranging accommodations and transportation, and providing daily meal and laundry allowances and tool kits for candidates. To eliminate administrative headaches for the client, Manpower also provided on-site candidate management.

As a result of this project, Manpower helped the JLU decrease the backlog of repair work by 10,000 hours and increase vehicle availability. The project was so successful that the ADF arranged for a second deployment six months later.
