BORDER CROSSING BORDER CROSSING presents architects, designers, urban planners, and researchers who are working across boundaries——whether they are national borders, cultural lines, or disciplinary demarcations. In the current political climate, and in the border city of Buffalo, the program explores how borders can be productively transgressed through a number of discursive positions and practices, operating between territories, cultures, and ideologies. This series of speakers emphasizes the importance and urgency for transnational cross- pollination in architecture and planning and celebrates the positive impact of immigrants and citizens from diverse backgrounds. #BorderCrossing The public lecture series of the School of Architecture and Planning is supported by the following individuals and companies: AIA Buffalo/WNY | Architectural Resources | Clarkson Visiting Chair in Architecture and Planning | Schneider Design, Architects PC | Frank Gramieri ’83 | The Inn at Buffalo | Marc ’92 and Jorrie Bruffett | Mach Architecture | Niagara Frontier Chapter ASHRAE | Pella Windows and Doors Buffalo | Sydney Gross Memorial Fund | Viviane Jammal | UB Arts Management Program | UB Department of Art | UB Art Galleries | UB Gender Institute AIA Continuing Education Credits Available APA Continuing Education Credits Available Information on accessibility and accommodations for people with disabilities can be found at ap.buffalo.edu/visitor-info EXHIBITIONS Senior Housing Studio Exhibition Coordinated by: Annette Lecuyer, Laura Garófalo, Jin Young Song, Brad Wales Hayes Hall Atrium December 4–February 16 Tectonics of Buoyancy: Junior Studio Exhibition Coordinated by: Chris Romano, Elaine Chow, Stephanie Cramer, Joyce Hwang, Ken MacKay Hayes Hall Atrium February 23–March 23 Atelier Bow-Wow Hayes Hall Atrium April 2–20 ‘New Normal(s): Design Exercises for the Grey Generation’ Coordinated by: Sarah Gunawan, Peter Reyner Banham Fellow 2017–18 Hayes Hall Atrium April 30–June 1 EVENTS Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences Lecture by Kenneth Drucker, Design Principal, HOK January 31, 6pm–7:30pm Table Talks A Professional Networking Event hosted by Senenmut Alumni Association February 9, 5pm–8pm Lecture by Katie Chevalier, Regional Director of ACE Mentor Program, 7pm–8pm OFF-CAMPUS EVENTS BUFFALO IN VENICE: Time Space Existence An officially-sponsored collateral event of the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale Organized by the Global Art Affairs Foundation Venice, Italy May 25–November 26 SYMPOSIA The UB Affordable Housing Symposium April 10, 8am–2pm With support by the following individuals and companies: Don Capoccia ’78 CAS | Tim Dempsey ’94 SAP | Franklin Dickinson ’85 SAP | Scott Lesh ’95 SAP | Alex Morris ’91. ’94 SAP | Cannon Heyman & Weiss | LVMN Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton | Anonymous* University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning Spring 2018 Public Programs All events held at 6pm in 403 Hayes Hall unless otherwise noted.
