box of what?WHO WE ARE
Simply put, we (Box of Matches) are a brand and design agency based in Essex, England. So why Box of matches? Okay it’s a play on words but we believe it conveys who we are; we are not the great idea, that’s you! Your idea, company, business, organisation, product, is what’s great, we are just the folks who come along to set it alight for the world to see.
In effect our clients are dynamite!
Title Online Interstitial (Norway)
Client EF Education First
EF is one of the largest providers of private education
in the world. ‘Language Travel’ is one of their main products aimed at 12-18 year olds and
is particularly strong in the Scandinavian countries.
Project Brief
The brief was to create an advert that would catch
students attention on external websites in a none intrusive
manner.
Creative DirectionWe came up with marketing
campaign using interstitials to drive traffic to LT website. Using EF’s popularity in the region, we
employed imagery from their print material and keeping the
colours in brand while pointing to discounts that was relevant to
the season. The success of the campaign prompted EF to reuse
the same campaign for the summer of the following year.

Client House on the Rock
House on the Rock is a vibrant multi-ethnic congregation,
with over 7,000 worshippers on Sunday mornings. It has a
network of several daughter churches spread over Africa
and Europe.
Project Brief To freshen up what has largely
been a successful brand and harmonise the different elements across its different touch points.
Creative Direction
Rather than tear a good thing down for the sake of it, we
decided to opted on updating the core brand elements and
only creating new elements to make them more adaptable to
modern media. We refined the well know icon, ‘decolourised’
the logo so it looked more ‘iconic’ and easily transferred
onto screen media. We also updated their typography to
sanserif fonts to look more modern and employed bold
colours to represent their strength.

TitleThe Father Project Campaign
Client
TLC (The lighthouse Cradle)
TLC is a UK registered charity that provides basic skills training
for adults and young people.
Project Brief Easily recognisable promotional
material that would engage youth with learning difficulty to
publicise a film-making project.
Creative DirectionThis is was a challenging job as
we felt we had to use minimal text to get the audience’s
attention to what the project was about and to establish
some credibility to TLC. Using a heavy red against a soft
background to suck the eye in we also employed silhouettes
to easily define different roles in filming. We also added subtle nuance to mimic the look of a
film poster.
A general misconception held by many is that branding is about facts or the truth but if you ask any brand expert you will be informed otherwise; branding is about how your audience perceives you.
At Box of Matches we help our clients articulate their identity, be it in screen or print media; our focus is always to help people see your unique proposition and core values.

Client PSP Rare Digital for KIA Motors
PSP Rare Digital is London based digital creative agency
that specialises in creating compelling experiences online
through digital marketing, website development and user
experience design.
Project Brief Front-end user interface
design for a flash and iPhone application for comparing the
KIA Picanto against similar vehicles from other car manufacturers.
Creative Direction
Working as consultants for PSP Rare we had to manage
two sets of expectations; that of PSP Rare and of KIA Motors.
The concept was to depart from plain look and text based layout found on most car comparison tools. The solution was vibrant colour and animation that flash
handles so brilliantly. We also modelled the same application
for the iPhone.

Client One World Foundation Africa
One World Foundation Africa is a UK registered charity. They work in London and Africa to
empower and promote the independence of the socially excluded, particularly people
affected by HIV/AIDS.
Project Brief Advertising the Democratic
Republic of Congo’s Independence day party hosted by One World Foundation Africa
for teens in East London.
Creative DirectionWe wanted to be really playful
being careful not to risk belittling the Independence of Congo. We used a grunge earthy feel in the background to be in with street
style teenagers could identify with whilst blending in the
nations colours of blue, yellow and ‘earthy’ red. We also used custom typography to give the
heading/title an edge.
