OSWALD’S CLOSEST FRIEND: THE GEORGE DE MOHRENSCHILDT STORY…. Santa Cruz: Privately printed by Adamson, 1996. 160pp. Index. Bibliography (showing a number of primary sources). Numerous photographs. Facsimiles. Photographic wrappers with cloth tape spine. First of this edition. General wear and faint embossed ownership seal of a previous owner, overall good+. This is essentially two books in one. The first is a timeline which outlines the activities of most of the major players linked either directly or indirectly to President Kennedy’s assassination. The second part deals specifically with George de Mohrenschildt and his relationship with Lee Harvey Oswald. De Mohrenschildt, a Russian emigrant of noble birth, arrived in United States in 1938. A short time later, he went to work for Humble Oil, a company that was co-founded by Prescott Bush. He counted the Bushes and the Bouviers (Jacqueline called him “Uncle George”) among his friends. In 1952 De Mohrenschildt went to work for Clint Murchison in Dallas. He joined the Dallas Petroleum Club and was involved in the Council on World Affairs and the Texas Crusade for Freedom. De Mohrenschildt was also active in the Russian émigré community where he got to know Lee Harvey and Marina Oswald. On March 29, 1977, he was being interviewed by Edward J. Epstein at the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach. The subject was his involvement with Oswald and the Kennedy assassination. After a break for lunch, De Mohrenschildt was found in his room dead from a single gunshot wound to the head. It was ruled a suicide but the author points to assassination. I must admit the relationship between the two is curious. De Mohrenschildt was sophisticated and well educated, moving easily in Dallas’ social and professional circles as well as its “White Russian” community. By contrast Oswald was not well educated, a loner, and hardly a man of influence. He was for the most part shunned by the Dallas’ Russian community who, by contrast, embraced De Mohrenschildt. Scarce with OCLC locating only a few scattered copies. See image. $100.00

original shipping sleeve. The album jacket and record appear pristine (it is doubtful the record has ever been played). The speeches are also fine. The program shows a faint bit of age toning and a slight crease, else very good. One of the speeches shows a faint crease, otherwise they are both fine. The shipping envelope shows some rubbing which would be expected. Undoubtedly, this is an extremely rare piece of Kennedy memorabilia. See image. $850.00 3. Aynesworth, Hugh [with] Stephen G. Michaud. JFK: BREAKING THE NEWS. Richardson: International Focus Press, 2003. xvi,263pp. Index. Illustrations. Cloth. First edition. Fine in a new fine dust jacket. Bob Schieffer, CBS News: “Hugh Aynesworth knows more about the Kennedy assassination…than anyone I know. A splendid book.” The author, an employee of the Dallas Morning News, was the only reporter to be present for all the major events during the weekend of November 22nd. He witnessed the assassination of President Kennedy, the arrest of Lee Harvey Oswald and the shooting of Oswald by Jack Ruby. $65.00 4. Belli, Melvin M. [with] Maurice C. Carroll. DALLAS JUSTICE: THE REAL STORY OF JACK RUBY AND HIS TRIAL. xii, 298pp. Index. Chronology of events from November 22, 1963 to March 14, 1964 (Ruby’s conviction). Appendices. Black cloth title in gilt on spine. First edition. The book is a very good copy. The dust jacket shows edgewear and short tears with an extremely clumsy tape repair at the top of spine, over all good. Written in the immediate aftermath of the trial, it is Belli’s account of his defense of Jack Ruby. It tells not only the story of the trial but gives previously unknown details of Belli’s meetings with Ruby. This provides interesting details into his attorney’s analysis of Ruby’s psyche. The appendices contain Ruby’s psychological test report and neurological examination as well as the autopsy reports on Oswald. $10.00 5. Bishop, Jim. THE DAY KENNEDY WAS SHOT. New York: Funk & Wagnalls, 1968. xv,554. Index. Sources. Photographic endpaper map shows the motorcade route and Oswald’s escape route from the assassination site on foot and via bus and taxi. Book Club edition. Very good copy. The dust jacket shows mild tanning, else very good. An hour by hour account of the events of November 22, beginning at 7:00 a.m. when President Kennedy awakened at the Hotel Texas and continuing into the predawn hours of the following day. The author interviewed a number of sources including President and Mrs. Johnson. $10.00 6. Bonner, Judy Whitson. INVESTIGATION OF A HOMICIDE--THE MURDER OF JOHN F. KENNEDY. Anderson: Droke House Publishers, 1969. 367pp. Numerous photographs and facsimiles. Diagrams. Black cloth with title in gilt on the spine. Fine copy. The white dust jacket shows some tanning and a few short tears, else very good+. First edition. INSCRIBED. This book takes a unique perspective in that it focuses on the efforts of the Dallas Police Department and their efforts to track down, capture, and prove their case against Lee Harvey Oswald. The author does this by giving a minute by minute account of events from the moment shots were fired at the motorcade until Oswald was killed. In the process, the author gives some details about the events that were overlooked, incorrectly or insufficiently explained by the Warren Commission. Includes a section which points out errors by other authors giving supporting information correcting the mistakes. Published by a vanity press, it was doubtless in a small edition which explains its scarcity today. See image. $400.00 7. Bridges, Dwayne A. LYNDON BAINES JOHNSON 1908 – 1973. This is the true first edition of a book famous for its controversial attack on the Warren Commission and the Ruby trial. It was published in 19 countries before its U.S. publication with parts of it first appearing in the French magazine, l’Express. The author chose to have a British firm publish the book as they did not exercise control over the manuscript (G.P. Putnam & Sons in the U.S. chose to “sanitize” their edition). $45.00 9. One of the criticisms of the Warren Commission was that it was a done hurriedly and focused on one scenario without serious investigation of other possibilities. This Select Committee, which began its investigation in 1976, was the result of public demand to re-examine the Warren Commission Report and investigate conflicting theories. In doing so, they created a cornerstone primary source on the assassination of President Kennedy. Contains the testimony of virtually everyone who might have any knowledge of the events of November 22nd (including Maria Oswald, Fidel Castro and a variety of organized crime figures), reproduces key pieces of evidence, examines other theories, and presents differing viewpoints. It also examines the Warren Report pointing out its strengths and deficiencies. Parenthetically, it extends into world politics, the political climate within the country, gives insights in LBJ and his relationship with President Kennedy, John Connally and a host of other pertinent issues. This is a must have set for the serious student of the Kennedy Assassination. See image – showing five of fifteen volumes. $1500.00 59. Warren, Chief Justice Earl et al.
