BOOKS OF 2020 My guides from yesteryear
If you were seeking turbulent change, 2020 didn’t disappoint and as I reviewed my own year over the winter break I was delighted to receive a very timely reminder of how I’d coped with yesteryear via a complete list of books I’d chosen to turn to. Books are indeed my counsellors, friends and teachers and what I learned about my year in books supported me to remember and appreciate what had been going on at the time I sought out each title. In coaching I’m mindful of my own stops, gaps and biases and find books challenge me to think
Reading brings solace, resources, possibility, power, answers, delight, adventure, counsel, learning, love and restores hope.

creatively. In my own life when I have an issue, I turn to books to pull me through. As it stands, I read approximately 4 fiction books (palate cleansers) and a whopping 40 non fiction books. I honestly think that number would be higher but I’ve been doing more writing this year. In any event, I thought I’d share the list with you, perhaps you’ll see something for yourself in one of the titles.
And before you go… there’s something else I wanted to share with you. On the first day of my winter break I noticed that my attention span was shall we say, short. Think squirrels… For someone who loves to read I found that curious. Could it be a symptom of an increase in my screen time due to COVID? How’s your focus these days? A pop of gum to chew and a quick revisit of Deep Work: Rules For Focused Success In A Distracted World by Cal Newport and soon I was immersed for hours. If you’re interested in learning more about my opinion on our ability to focus and some quick tips, visit my blog here.

We’re only several days into 2021, send me an email and let me know what’s on your list and if you’re willing, what has you reading it. Until then consider this quote, “We read to know we're not alone.” William Nicholson, Shadowlands
“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.”
