GREETINGS PATRONS OF KIMBERLING AREA LIBRARY! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and I wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season and a Merry Christmas! Volunteers are what has made the Kimberling Area Library such an exceptional gift to our community. Without volunteers, I am not sure where our great Library would be. Historically, our Library is a volunteer’s act; a volunteered gift of love from people that loved our community and wanted the best for it. The Library is run, man-aged, and maintained by volunteers. I want to thank all of the volunteers that have worked and put their time, efforts and yes, love, into what they do for the Library. There are many ways volunteers show what I have said; they open and close the library. There are volunteers at the desk to assist people in finding books, recommending books, check-ing book out and in, shelving books, categorizing books to be shelved in an orderly fashion so that they can be found easily, and direct you to a book on a subject matter you are interested in. Volunteers provide terrific programs on so many and helpful subjects; volunteers trim trees, move bookshelves, displays, organize meeting rooms for groups to use for their meetings, provide children’s learning to operate a computer (even at a very young age), provide story time and reading time for children. Volunteers help folks with the Library computers. Volunteers are greatly reward-ed, not by being paid money but by knowing that they have helped someone and being very proud of it. What is there to do at the Library for a volunteer? Do you ever have a feeling of there is nothing to do in Kimberling City? The Library fulfills the yearning to do something, to accomplish things for people and to give you pride in what you are doing. The Kimberling Area Library has been built, operated and staffed by volunteers. Kim-berling Area Library always needs volunteers. In conclusion: BE THERE AND VOLUNTEER!! Kimberling Area Library is THE place to be. The proof of that statement is in the figures and things that are done at the Library. Need a Christmas gift? Kimberling Area Library has Christmas gifts that have a better price on them than anything you will find elsewhere. I bought a beautiful Santa and reindeer setting that was only ten dollars! There are beautifully carved wood trains that amount to what would be a family treasure forever. The Quilting Club has handmade original designed quilts for sale. You can’t get anything better than that! The facts show that people like to come to the Library as there were 26,687 books 2,530 children’s books and 9,710 e-books checked out during the year. Don’t forget that the Library sponsors the wonderful programs on Wednesdays; such as the history of Missouri dur-ing the Civil War, the Missouri Attorney General’s Office program and handout on identity theft, programs on geolo-gy, travel programs from people who have lived in areas such as Panama, Norway, etc. In closing I would like to mention that for one hundred dollars or more donated to the Library in memory of a loved one, their name can be put on the Library memorial plaque that hangs in the Library.

CHECK OUT THE FRIENDS CORNER

Some weeks ago we were given the contents of a large storage area. These contents in-clude many nice baskets and cartons of new merchandise containing many holiday items, dishes, containers, ornamental boxes, etc. We have made a table in the Friends Corner to display a variety of these items to brighten someone’s home, and we will be adding more as space is available. Each time you visit the library, take a few minutes to check out the Friends Corner. We also have a “Christmas Recycled” table where you can pick up “like new” holiday decorations. Proceeds from both tables will help us continue to give the gift of a library to our commu-nity.

RESERVING BOOKS

Remember, every library patron can reserve books (put books on hold) using his/her online account at any time of the day or night. Simply go to the library website, www.kalib.org, click on the magnifying glass in upper right for the catalog. Log in with your library card number and phone number for password. When you find the item you de-sire, click the Reserve Now button. You will be notified when the item is at the front desk for pickup. Items are held for pickup for 3 working days. This is another great feature of KAL that is available to all patrons.
