About the different file formatsDAISY • Talking Book format that Provides enhanced navigation (Heading Levels) • Two kinds: DAISY Text (Bookshare), or DAISY audio (RFBD)

Text • Electronic text, documents, web pages that Do not provide enhanced

navigation• BPP provides the text navigation functions for these files Audio • Music , podcasts and recordings with no enhanced navigation• BPP groups them into a single title and assigns Title Navigation

Commands (track to track) Audio Books • Books from Audible.com provide Same navigation than Audio files, and

are grouped by title

Text vs. Audio

Text:

Is read with synthesized speech

Words can be spelled

Provide movement by character, word, line, sentence, paragraph and page

Move by character, word and line only when paused

Move by sentence, paragraph and page any time

DAISY text provides in addition, Heading Level navigation

Audio:

Reads/Plays material as recorded

Provide movement by time

Moves by 5, 10, or 30 seconds

Audio files are considered ‘Tracks’, and folders ‘Albums’

DAISY audio provides in addition, Heading Level navigation

Movement principles

• All keys on left move back or rewind through text or audio –Left Arrow, key 1, Key 4, and Key 7

• All keys on right move forward through text or audio –Right Arrow, key 3, key 6, and key 9

• The farther down the keypad you press, the farther you move within the text or audio

• Up and Down Arrow: Adjust speed

• Right and Left Arrows: 5 sec.

• 1 and 3: 10 sec.• 4 and 6: 30 sec.• 7 and 9: Track/Album

• When press repeatedly:• In Audio files, lets you choose between Track and

Album movement• In DAISY files, lets you choose movement between

Heading Levels• The number of Heading Levels depend on how the

publisher decides to mark the book• Novels may have only 1 or 2 Levels -Chapters • Textbooks may have several levels -Chapters, Sections,

Subsections, etc.• In newspapers and magazines, level navigation may

move by article

Using keys 7, 8 and 9

• Open a DAISY text, DAISY audio, or open the Audio category

• Press 8 to select the desired movement amount (Track, Album, or Heading Level

• Press key 7 or 9 to move back or forward by the amount selected
