Advent 4
Blessed are you, Sovereign Lord, merciful and gentle; to you be praise and glory for ever! Your light has shone in our darkened world through the child-bearing of blessed Mary; grant that we who have seen your glory may daily be renewed in your image and prepared like her for the coming of your Son, who is the Lord and Saviour of all. Blessed be God for ever.
God our Father, the angel Gabriel told the Virgin Mary that she was to be the mother of your Son. Though Mary was afraid, she responded to your call with joy. Help us, whom you call to serve you, to share like her in your great work of bringing to our world your love and healing. We ask this through Jesus Christ, the Light who is coming into the world.
Lord Jesus, Light of the world, blessed is Gabriel who brought good news; blessed is Mary your mother and ours: Bless your Church preparing for Christmas; and bless us your children who long for your coming.

O Emmanuel (God With Us) by Malcolm Guite
O come, O come, and be our God-with-us O long-sought with-ness for a world without,
O secret seed, O hidden spring of light. Come to us Wisdom, come unspoken Name
Come Root, and Key, and King, and holy Flame, O quickened little wick so tightly curled,
Be folded with us into time and place, Unfold for us the mystery of grace
And make a womb of all this wounded world. O heart of heaven beating in the earth, O tiny hope within our hopelessness
Come to be born, to bear us to our birth, To touch a dying world with new-made hands
And make these rags of time our swaddling bands.

The Advent of Our God
The advent of our God with eager prayers we greet, and singing haste upon his road his coming reign to meet.
The everlasting Son came down to make us free; and he a servant’s form put on to gain our liberty.
Daughter of Sion, rise to meet thy lowly King; let not thy faithless heart despise the peace he comes to bring.
As judge, on clouds of light, he soon will come again, his scattered people to unite with them in heaven to reign.
Then evil flee away before the rising dawn! Let this old Adam day by day God's image still put on.
Praise to the incarnate Son, who comes to set us free, with Father, Spirit, ever one, to all eternity.

What is Spiritual Direction?
Throughout the centuries, Christians
have sought one-on-one prayerful
support, guidance in discernment,
and creative challenge in their faith
journeys through the company of
spiritual directors. In spiritual
direction, believers meet
confidentially with “someone who can help us see and name our own
experience of God. Each of us needs to grow...to a knowledge of the way
the Spirit works in our own lives. We need to learn to recognize the daily
tracings of divine grace and to respond to them… Spiritual directors act as
companions, encouraging and supporting us, praying for us, listening to
us.” (Marjorie J. Thompson)
The goal of spiritual direction is not to fix problems but rather to recognize
where God is at work and to assist with growth in prayer and other spiritual
disciplines.
The cost is a suggested fee of $25-$50 paid to the spiritual director.*
If you or someone you know is interested in learning more, please feel free
to approach Catherine ([email protected]), Darlene
([email protected]), or Michelle ([email protected]).
*If the cost is prohibitive, please approach us to discuss options.
