Bonnie Jean was born on September 17, 1933 in Williston, ND, the daughter of Irwin and Garnet (Hippie) Iverson. She was raised and educated in Tioga, with the exception of her freshman year, when she attended Oak Grove High School in Fargo. She graduated from Tioga High School in 1951. She later attended Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, where she received her Associates Degree in Music. Bonnie Jean worked as a bookkeeper for Garvey Rig and Trucking and Lawrence Trans- portation in Tioga. On October 15, 1953 Bonnie was united in marriage to Charles F. “Doodle” Barton in Billings, MT. They lived in Odessa, Texas and moved back to Tioga in 1956. In 1962, Doodle and Bonnie Jean started Tioga Feed and Ranch Supply which they operated for twenty years. They were active members in the Tioga Farm Festival, and always proponents of Tioga. They farmed and ranched four miles west of Tioga. Doodle passed away in 1989. Bonnie Jean continued to live in Tioga and served as a bookkeeper/secretary/treasurer for the Norseman’s Museum, Tioga Senior Citizens, Secretary of the Tioga Farm Festival, Clerk for Tioga First Baptist Church, a member of N.D. Rural Transportation Committee, an active member of the Williams County Historical Society, and served on the Governor’s Committee on Aging for several years. Bonnie Jean was a member of First Baptist Church in Tioga where she served as the Choir Director, she was also active in the Tioga Senior Citizens and the American Legion Auxiliary. Jean loved gardening, playing the piano, singing, classical music and people. While her boys were growing up she always displayed flowers at the Tioga Farm Festival. She is survived by two sons, Carey Thomas Barton of Tioga, ND and Charles Irwin Barton of Dallas, TX; three grandchildren, Jennifer and Bryan Barton of Grapevine, TX and Abby Jean Barton of Fargo, ND, one sister, Rae Harvey and a niece, Shelly Haugen both of Mohall, N.D. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
