.45 Pistol
This is a description of the use of the theatrically modified handgun, .45 pistol, hereby referred to
as “the .45” as used in Bonnie and Clyde.
The .45 is fired by multiple characters throughout the show; these characters are Clyde played by
Zach Turner/Alex Petersen and Bonnie played by Sarah Feist/Lauren Urso. The .45 is also
handled unloaded by the Preacher played by Cole Neese.
When not in the possession of the actors Alex Petersen/Zach Turner, Lauren Urso/Sarah Feist,
Cole Neese, or the designated Gun Wrangler, Leah Haynor, the .45, as seen in Appendix A, is
kept in a lock box in the Prop Shop in which only stage management has access. The 8mm blank
ammo, seen in Appendix B, used in the firing of the gun, are kept in a separate lock boxes in the
Prop Shop to which only stage management has access. Both lock boxes will be kept in the Prop
Shop when not in use.
Act II, Scene 7
The .45 will be used unloaded by Clyde in Act I, Scene 7. The Gun Wrangler will retrieve the
unloaded .45 from the Prop Shop before the start of the scene and hand the .45 to Clyde.
Clyde will enter from Stage Right 3 wing and cross stage backstage behind the ensemble and
down to the Stage Left plug. He will stop there on “Step away from the car” pointing the
unloaded .45 towards the audience, above their heads. After the line “I mean, until now,” Clyde
will cross to the Stage Right plug, stopping on the line “Oh would you look at that dress.” He
will point the unloaded .45 toward the audience, above their heads, until the line, “I can’t wait to
rip this off of you.” Clyde will then cross upstage around the ensemble, then crossing to upstage
center to walk down the center line. Clyde will stop on the Sheriff’s line “Keep your hands in the
air.” Clyde will have the unloaded .45 pointed towards the audience, above their heads, until the
Sheriff’s line “Now, place the gun on the ground” when Clyde will place the .45 in front of his
feet on the ground. He will step away from the .45 and be dragged upstage right.
The Preacher will step forward as the Sheriff is dragging Clyde away and pick up the .45. He
will finish the song God Arms are Always Open, with the .45 in his hand. At the end of the song,
the Preacher will exit through the downstage Left plug to the well where the Gun Wrangler will
collect the .45 and lock it back in its case. Please see Ground Plan #1.

Ground Plan #1
Intermission
The .45 is kept unloaded until intermission, at which point the Gun Wrangler removes the gun
from its case and, in the presence of Clyde (the individuals firing the gun onstage) and Bud (the
individual being “fired at”), loads the 8mm ammo blank round into the .45. After this process is
complete, the .45 is again locked in its case.
Act II, Scene 2
Clyde is the first character to fire the .45, in Act II, Scene 2. The Gun Wrangler will retrieve the
loaded .45 from the lockbox and give the loaded .45 to Clyde, who will enter with the .45 from
the Stage Left 2 wing onstage at the end of the song Made In America.

Clyde will cross toward the Store Clerk, downstage right after is line “I don’t want to see
anyone’s hands lower than their ears.” He will cross upstage behind the versa-wagon as Bud
enters on the line “Move and I shoot.” Clyde and Bud will both stay at their positions onstage
throughout the exchange of dialogue with the loaded .45 pointed toward Bud. After Bud’s line
“Drop the gun,” Clyde will fire one blank upstage of Bud and in response Bud will shoot the .38
once. (See .38 Tracking) Clyde will cross Stage Left and handoff the .45 to the Gun Wrangler on
Stage Left 2 wing. The Gun Wrangler will remove any additional ammo and lock the ammo and
.45 in their respective cases. See Ground Plan #2.
Ground Plan #2
Act II, Scene 5
The next time the .45 is used is in Act II, Scene 5 by Clyde. The .45 will be checked to ensure it

Clyde will walk onto the Stage Left plug and on the line “Jessie James had much more fun” he
will pull the unloaded .45 out of his holster, keeping the .45 up, not pointed towards anyone. He
will put it back in his holster as he exits Stage Left 2. Clyde will then handoff the .45 to the Gun
Wrangler who will load three 8mm ammo blanks and prep the .45 for the coming scene in the
presence of the Stage Left Asst. Stage Manager. Once complete the Gun Wrangler will hand the
loaded .45 to Clyde to put in his holster.
On Bonnie’s line “I’m lookin for romance” Clyde will enter from the Stage Left 2 wing, with the
loaded .45 in his holster. Clyde will cross to Bonnie, center stage as the scene transitions into the
Bank, Scene 6. See Ground Plan #3.
Ground Plan #3
Act II, Scene 6
As Scene 5 transitions to Scene 6, Clyde is already onstage with the loaded .45. Clyde pulls the
loaded .45 out of his holster on his line “This is a holdup.” He will point the gun at the Bank
Teller. Clyde will perform the scene staying roughly at center with the loaded .45 being pointed

at the Bank Teller and the customers upstage. On the line “Bonnie and Clyde or Clyde and
Bonnie?” Clyde will point the loaded .45 at Archie, played by Stewart Ottersburg. After that,
Clyde will begin to walk Stage Left with the loaded .45 in his hand. On Clyde’s line “What’s this
country comin to” as Clyde is walking towards offstage, the Teller will pull out a .38 and fire a
blank upstage of Clyde. (See .38 tracking) Bonnie will then take the loaded .45 from Clyde and
fire 3 blanks upstage of the Teller who will fall to the ground.
The .45 will exit with Bonnie on Stage Left 2 wing where the Gun Wrangler will retrieve the .45.
The Gun Wrangler will remove any additional ammo and lock the ammo and .45 in their
respective cases. See Ground Plan #4.

Act II , Scene 13
The .45 is fired again in Act II, Scene 13 by Clyde. The Gun Wrangler will remove the .45 from
its case and, in the presence of Clyde (the individual firing the gun onstage) loads the 8mm
ammo blank round into the .45. After this process is complete, the .45 is again locked in its case.
At the beginning of the scene, The Gun Wrangler will retrieve the loaded .45 from the lockbox
and give the loaded .45 to Clyde, who will enter with the loaded .45 in his holster from the Stage
Right 2 wing. He will cross onstage and upstage through the scene. On the line “Now, How Bout
a Dance,” Clyde will cross downstage center to Bonnie with the loaded .45 still in his holster. He
will walk towards Blanche and dance with her through the song. He will then cross back
downstage center on the line “The laws are outside.” He will stay in that location with the .45 in
his holster until a barrage of strobe, light, and sound effects.
Clyde will then cross stage left towards the Sheriff lying on the Stage Left plug, pulling out the
loaded.45 from his holster as Young Clyde enters. As he continues his monologue, Clyde will
cross slowly upstage toward the plaster line. On his line “Right, Sheriff?” Clyde will fire a blank
down and to the left of the Sheriff, lying on the ground. The .45 will then be handed off Stage
Left 2 to the Gun Wrangler as another barrage of strobe, light, and sound effects continue. See

After this process is complete, the .38 is again locked in its case.
Act II, Scene 2
Bud is the first character to fire the .38, in Act II, Scene 2. The Gun Wrangler will unlock the .38
