What does a Bonner do?

Address unmet, community-defined human and environmental needs through intensive, long-term positions and capacity-building projects.


Grow and develop – along a student developmental model - which includes building the capacity of non-profits and communities

Vision and Relationships

Basis for cooperation is usually between individuals but may be mandated.

Organizations mission and goals are not considered

Interaction is on an as needed basis with no time limit

Interaction usual around one specific project or task

Commitment of the organization is fully behind the individuals involved

Structure, Responsibilities, & Communications

Relationships are informal, each organization functions separately

Comprehensive planning is required including measures of success

• As a coordinator you want to make sure that this completed by each student who has a summer placement

• As a coordinator you will need to ensure that all site supervisors are set up to review and approve student hours
