NRO. 61 / FILACP / AGOSTO 2014 WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT. Dear Colleagues and Friends. After the first 6 months of being in charge, I have had the satisfac- tion of visiting the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Brazil, Panama and Guatemala, where I had the opportunity of meeting with the authorities of the corresponding Societies and also to cover topics of mutual interest and favorable to the Specialty. Next I will be traveling to Europe, representing the FILACP, to par- ticipate in the creation of a new World Society of Plastic Surgery, with the proposal of the creation of a transparent, representative and democratic organization. The Course for the Publication of Scientific Journals, given by MD Vaquero, has been a total success, with several requests from National Societies interested on the same. We encourage our colleagues to send their works for their publica- tion in our Iberian Latin American Journal of Plastic Surgery. Each Chapter of the Federation will select the best work published in the journal on its corresponding area (years 2014 – 2015), this will be awarded with an honorary diploma and monetary stimulus which will be awarded duraing the closing ceremony in the Biannual Con- ference of the FILACP to take place in Punta del Este – Uruguay on March 9 to 12, 2016, where everyone is invited. WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT.Dear Colleagues and Friends.

After the first 6 months of being in charge, I have had the satisfac-tion of visiting the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Brazil, Panama and Guatemala, where I had the opportunity of meeting with the authorities of the corresponding Societies and also to cover topics of mutual interest and favorable to the Specialty.

Next I will be traveling to Europe, representing the FILACP, to par-ticipate in the creation of a new World Society of Plastic Surgery, with the proposal of the creation of a transparent, representative and democratic organization.

The Course for the Publication of Scientific Journals, given by MD Vaquero, has been a total success, with several requests from National Societies interested on the same.

We encourage our colleagues to send their works for their publica-tion in our Iberian Latin American Journal of Plastic Surgery. Each Chapter of the Federation will select the best work published in the journal on its corresponding area (years 2014 – 2015), this will be awarded with an honorary diploma and monetary stimulus which will be awarded duraing the closing ceremony in the Biannual Con-ference of the FILACP to take place in Punta del Este – Uruguay on March 9 to 12, 2016, where everyone is invited.

Dear members of the Plastic Surgery Societies and Associ-ations of the Iberian Ameri-can Federation of Plastic Sur-gery of the FILACP.

We see the great boom of intrusiveness in our medical specialty the last years with much concern, boosted by an unmeasured desire for obtaining economic resourc-es by the people, which with-out having qualifications and the training to exercise it and stimulated in situation by commercial businesses look-ing for a market where to sell their products, adventure themselves into a tricky, anti ethical and prejudicial prac-tice, both for the unwary users that make the mistake of recurring to their services, as for the prestige of our noble specialty of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery.

This situation echoes in a very negative way in our profes-sional practice, since ase we know, whenever regretable situations occur due to intru-siveness, which imply compli-cations on health or the decease of those who use their services, a considerable

reduction in the consultations and procedures of the Plastic Surgeons is produced, because most of the people sadly do not know how to dis-tinguish between a Plastic Surgeon and an individual who is not one, but that holds a certificate that many times misleads people (Aesthetic Practitioner, Cosmetic Sur-geon, beautician, etc.).

These groups of doctors that make themselves called spe-cialists in Aethetics Medicine, search everyday the way to endorse themselves as spe-cialists, have formed associa-tions and organize confer-ences that evidently are more of the business than the sci-entific nature, due to that, in many ocassions they invite Plastic Surgeons from out Federation to participate in such events as speakers and later advertise them, high-lighting the participation of such Surgeons.

In such sense and honouring what is referred in the sec-tions F, G and L of the Article Nº 20, as well as to the Article Nº 22 of the valid Code of Ethics, and from which all the Associations have acquired

the commitment of its accep-tance by being part of the FILACP, we recommend our members to refuse participat-ing as speakers in events organized by these associa-tions. In the same way, not to take conferences regarding Aesthetic Procedures to events from Specialized Soci-eties different to Plastic Sur-gery (General Surgery, Gine-cology, etc.), in the event of doing this, we would be stim-ulating intrusiveness, wich is detrimental to our profession and to the future of our spe-cialty.
