They’re Ready, Are you?

• Most students spend 31 hours or more online weekly. As teachers we need to meet them where they live; here, online.

They gravitate to the computer and the web. Students are used to instant feedback and social media.

Online Classrooms

• Options

Of the online classrooms, I chose to use Edmodo for my classes in progress, and moodle for my video conferencing class that is scheduled to start in the fall.

I signed up for a free edmodo account and was using it the next day. All of my assignment are posted there as well as quizzes, and polls. The students can see their grade, drop me a note and turn in assignments effortlessly.

Rubrics&

Assessments• Rubistar• Irubric• Quizstar• Google Docs• Quizlet

Rubrics are invaluable to teachers. They save time and take the subjectivity out of grading. The students have a clear picture of what is expected.Quizzes are a formative assessment that lets teachers gauge the pace of the learning. Online quizzes are stress-free and quick.

七時十五分まえ 7 o'clock• At 7:15• 6:45 • At 6:45

Quizzes can be short, just 10 questions and can be done online as a quick review, or just to give the students an idea of how they are doing in the unit.

Not all quizzes have to count as a grade, but I find the students asking me to please count them as they are all doing so well!

Moodle is a much more sophisticated online classroom that allows for meaningful dialog between the student and the teacher. Content is controlled by the teacher and the option to stream media is a key component of any course. This is my first online course using moodle. I have found it very easy to

stay on task and extremely informative.
