Smetana Three Dances from

Dvorák Romance for Violin & Orchestra
Ravel Tzigane for Violin & Orchestra
Mahler Symphony No. 1, Titan
Dvorák’s music spirals in the aftermath
of a broken heart, and Mahler’s nostalgic
exuberance and gentle melodies are simply
supple. Smetana’s Three Dances are about
young love and a family’s disapproval.
Ravel’s impressionistic music is fearsomely
technical with an accelerated dance.

Stravinsky Suite from The Firebird
Jim Cockey An Idaho Symphony - World Premiere
Mussorgsky Pictures at an Exhibition, arr. by Ravel
An Idaho Symphony, by Idaho composer Jim Cockey, has its world premiere to celebrate
the distinct seasons of Idaho. This piece will recreate nature’s beauty through sound and
projected images. Ravel’s work musically leads us through a promenade of a visual art
gallery, while Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite is introduced by piano and harp in a lullaby.
Dr. Paul Collins commissioned An Idaho Symphony in celebration of Jim’s 20th year.
