Central & Eastern Europe:2016 Projects Overview
The countrywide project aimed at strengthening experimental and research based learning for children and youth. Club
members are encouraged to find the topics themselves and search for the answers to the identified problems by performing
the experiments using widely available materials: in the home kitchen or garage, on a walk or in the garden. A club may be
started everywhere: in the countryside and in a town or city, in a kindergarten, at school or independently from the formal
education system. It may be led by a teacher, local leader, parent or by older student
Young Explorers Clubs
In order to enhance secondary students interest in STEM education Boeing
supported development and manufacturing of 150 training sets on the subject
of “Air”. The “Dreams Engineers” toolkits have been distributed among the most
engaged clubs leaders. An educational set includes components which enable
users to conduct experiments related to a specific subject area – air. The set is
comprised of measuring equipment, construction elements and materials which
are used to demonstrate specific phenomena and processes. A specially
designed notepad presents interesting facts on aviation and enables collecting
the measurements in a structured way

1st Polish National CanSat Competition
The project is addressed to secondary school students. It’s main goal is to promote STEM education, engage young
generation into hands-on engineering activity, develop technical skills and enhance team work capacity. European
Space Agency ESA Education Office has been inviting secondary school students to take part in the European CanSat
competition since 2010. To take part in the European finals the team needs to be a winner of the National CanSat
Competition (NCC). In 2016 Boeing sponsored First Polish National Competition organized by Copernicus Science
Centre
The event was organized on 7- 10 April at the local airport
and on military range, 45 participants in 7 teams competed.
The mini-satellites were propelled to the altitude of 2,500 m
with the rocket reaching a top speed of about 0.9 Mach. The
winning team - GILASAT from the Academic High School of
Torun, represented Poland on the 2016 European challenge
in Portugal.

hosted at Lodz University of Technology since its beginning in 2008. The project
is intended to boost children natural curiosity and spark their interest in pursuing
science and engineering careers. The Children’s University is a program of
more than 15 workshops and 10 lectures for 1,200 children aged between 7 and
12, workshops for the group of 70 alumni ages 13-15 with the focus on solving
scientific problems in biotechnology, electronics and robotics and interactive

The Young Explorers Clubs program provides a hands-on workshops
focused on experiments performed using high-tech lab equipment of
Wroclaw University of Technology
The goal is to fill the gap in formal education where physics is not taught at
all or is delivered in an uninteresting way by memorizing the patterns without
understanding the phenomena
The participants are given the problems and encouraged to find the solution
by doing the experiments, performing measurements and analyzing the data
The programs is delivered in agglomeration of large city Wroclaw but also at
schools in small towns and villages of the region

Washington Business Week is a program that for 40 years is preparing students to successfully enter the workforce by
giving them the skills, confidence, and values to succeed in life
In 2009 the Mayor of Gdynia, Poland, invited the Business Week Program to Poland. Gdynia Business Week was held
for the first time in August for 100 students and has become an annual event with potential growth
In 2011 Gdynia Business Week expanded in Poland to add programs in Bolesławowo and Gdansk
The program receives great support from all cities’ authorities as well as from local business
“WBW’s Poland program has been a life-changing experience for me to learn about myself as a leader and mentor for
international students. The opportunity to watch the Polish students grow as leaders, become confident in their English
speaking skills and bond with other students to become life-long friends is truly rewarding” – Angela Barbera, BCA

2012.The program focuses on therapeutic recreation, allowing sick children to meet challenges and
experience success. Located in Hungary, this is the only therapeutic recreation center in the Central &

intended outcome to trigger long term changes in the
nutrition of the campers, their families and the volunteers
was implemented. The healthy meals in the camp, games
related to healthy nutrition, printed materials on healthy

Central & Eastern Europe: Community Volunteering
In 2016 Boeing employees in Poland joined the charity drive “Noble Box” – country wide
initiative aiming to support anonymously carefully selected underprivileged families with
the articles they are missing or have no enough funds to buy. The funds collected
enabled us to forward 7 boxes with groceries and other daily use articles.
On the top of it we have donated the Lenovo tablet received as a business courtesy. Our
Global Corporate Citizenship partner Copernicus Science Center volunteered to sponsor
8 vouchers for free entrance to the exhibition valid until November 2017.
