    These and other services...

BCS is a subsidiary of The BoeingCompany, with product lines that

nclude computer time, programming, consulting, training, data baseservices, facilities management, anda variety of other services. BCSoperates throughout the UnitedStates, from district offices inPhiladelphia, Washington, D.C.,Houston, Seattle, and Wichita. Datacenters are maintained at Seattle,Philadelphia, Wichita, and Huntsville.

With staff and facilities developedhrough more than 20 years of broad

business experience, BCS offerscomprehensive support in manywidely used applications. Thesenclude general business and financialsystems, automated manufacturingechniques, inventory management, scientific and engineering techniques, management systems, and computeroperating systems. Today BCS isproviding these and other serviceso industry and to various levels ofgovernment throughout the country, and each user receives direct,

    personal attention from experiencedBCS people.

DIMENSIONAL CONTROL is amanufacturing and engineering tool that

saves money, shortens flowtime, andturns the impossible end product into aprofitable reality. Developed in thedemanding environment of aerospacedesign and production, DimensionalControl is now available to industry atlarge as a regular service of BCS.

With Dimensional Control youcan capture the design intent of a projectin mathematical form, moving straightinto numerically controlled tooling andproduction without trial-and-errorexperimentation. At the same time, usingdrafting machines, you can visualize thedesign for reference, with the drawings

serving as a constant guide and checkfor all components.

Dimensional Control will helpyou to compress schedules, save man-hours and materials by eliminatingdefects, further reduce material costs bydesigning for numerically controlledmachining of complex shapes, andensure consistent production throughout.Parts and assemblies will be readilyinterchangeable. Subassemblies willmate without rework or forced fits.Widespread subcontracting can beemployed with consistent results ensuredby the use of the common mathematical

    sources provided by Dimensional Control.

The uses of Dimensional Controlare broad; airplanes, engines, trucks, automobiles, architecturalcomponents, topographic studies, shipbuilding, and other current applica-tions have thoroughly demonstrated theversatility of this new industrial tool.

RAGS: A SOLID-WASTE MANAGEMESYSTEM. RAGS (route analysis, generaand simulation) is BCS's response to along-recognized need of American urcommunities. Both the volume and pecapita production of solid waste arerising at accelerating rates. Productivhas failed to keep pace. Costs areincreasing rapidly. The result everywhis a major financial and service crisis.

RAGS is already being used to mthe problem head-on. It is currently infull-scale use in Baton Rouge,Shreveport, and Memphis, whereservice quality and economics have bsubstantially improved. Citizencomplaints have declined. Employeemorale is up. Fewer accidents are beireported. Backtracking on truck routehas been cut to a minimum. Productivis much higher than before, and costsare down.

RAGS gets results like these byestablishing efficient routes and

schedules, balancing workloads betwroutes and crews, selecting suitabletransfer stations, disposal points, andgarages, and simulating the economiceffects of operational decisions.

Easy to implement, RAGS producvisual material that can be used direcby collection crews, with minimalinstruction. Supervisory personnel caobserve and control operations, makioperational adjustments on the spotwherever the need arises. Effects arealmost immediate when the RAGSsystem goes into operation.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION:DEFINING THE PROBLEM. With itscoast-to-coast communication networand large computers, BCS is ideallysituated to assist federal agenciesdealing with nationwide problems.Data-gathering, storage, and retrievalservices are now being provided on amassive scale to the EnvironmentalProtection Agency in its effort to checwater pollution. Using BCS for supporthe agency operates a system calledSTORET, which defines cause-and-efrelationships in water pollution.

    Information on streams througho

the country is gathered at key points, transmitted to the BCS data center atPhiladelphia. Several basic types of dare processed: the uses to which thewater is applied, criteria to fit the use(such as temperature and pH), presencondition of the water, past conditionsand point-source data on pollution. Aaction file is maintained on city or staplans for eliminating harmful dischargor otherwise upgrading water quality.

These arecomputer programs and techniques thatyou can use to get at the detailed factsabout your business, take prompt action, and get solid economic results. Applyingthese tools singly or in combination, youcan obtain on-the-spot analyses of jobexpenditures, projections of cashrequirements, sales forecasts, laborallocations, and other aids to decisiveaction. With these tools you can

formulate dependable job estimates, foresee possible need to borrow (ordefer certain payables), take advantage ofdiscounts, arrange to recruit newpersonnel, and otherwise stay on top ofthe action.

The BCS tools are designed formmediate response. The program costsare surprisingly low, and initialpreparation is minimal. They includeprograms for accounts payable, payroll, nventory, job costs, accounts receivable, department costs, general ledger, andmany others. All have been in regularuse for years. No testing is needed. Allare applicable, as they are, to mostbusinesses.

FOR THE COMPUTER USER. BCS offerscomputer time on a variety of large andsmall equipment. Appropriate computers, systems, and programs are provided tofit the customer's need for batch orterminal services. A nationwidetelecommunication network brings theBCS data centers within reach ofterminal-service users throughout thecountry.

Batch services are available at allfour BCS data centers: Wichita, Seattle,Philadelphia, and Huntsville. These canbe used to fulfill your entire computingneed or to alleviate peak loads oremergencies.

Terminal services at BCS are highlydiversified. Computers and software arethe best and most advanced available.Conversational terminal services andremote job entry are both offered, toaugment your present computercapability.

A new and dramatically usefulterminal service now provided by BCS is

interactive computer graphics. This givesyou instantaneous visualization ofmathematical information, allowingpreview study of engineering design data, topographical information, economicdata, performance curves, marketinformation, and other decision-makinginputs.

Another recent addition to BCSterminal services is an extremelyeffective COBOL debug program:COSYBUG. This new tool substantiallyreduces debugging time, providingshorter overall flowtimes and lower costs.COSYBUG is easy to learn; a COBOLprogrammer can become proficient inabout two hours. Programs can bedebugged interactively with COSYBUG;core dumps are no longer necessary;and COSYBUG's flexibility makes itespecially useful in developing newprograms.

This and similar analytical assistanceare regular services of BCS, madepossible by its unique combination ofphysical resources and computer-management expertise.
