The word ha is the first person singular of the verb avere (to have)
The verb Avere is an irregular verb, that is it does not follow the rules most verbs follow. As you already know, Italian verbs need to be conjugated, as they have a different form for each person. Here is the conjugation of the verb Avere:
Avere
Io ho
Tu hai
Lui/lei ha
Noi abbiamo
Voi avete
Loro hanno
To have
I have
You have
He/she has
We have
You have (plural)
They have
Io ho i capelli lunghi
I have long hair
Noi abbiamo i capelli corti
We have short hair
Voi avete la bocca piccola
You have (plural) a small mouth
What if you don’t have something?
In this case, you just add the word non right before the verb.
Io non ho i capelli lunghi, ho i capellicorti.
I don’t have long hair, I have short hair
