Your Body Language shapes who you are

TED talk by Amy Cuddy Presented by: Haneesh Vengala IIT MADRAS

Body language is used in interactions for communicating

We are always particularly interested in other people body languages

We are always particularly Interested inOther people Body languages.

We always thinkIn this way like,“What is his/her Body communicating to me?”

And make sweeping judgementsInferences from body languages .

Those judgements can predict life Outcomes like who we hire or who Ask on a date.

So what non-verbals are we talking about?

The non-verbals regarding power

and dominance which are important in our life.

In animal kingdom, animals open up or expand their

arms showing they are powerful.

The same goes with humans

too , they give different kinds

of poses of opening up

When we feel powerless , we wrap ourselves

We always tend to do the complement of other non-verbals,

When somebody powerful is with us ,we tend to make ourselves small not feel powerful

WE know that our non verbals govern how other people

think and feel about us

But OUR real Question

IS?

Do our non verbals govern how we feel about ourselves?

Do our body language influence our minds?

What do minds of powerful and powerless look like?

Powerful people are. more assertive. more confident. optimistic. think more abstractly

In terms of hormones

Powerful people have more testosteroneOr the dominance hormone and less cortisol or

the stress hormone

In weaklings it’s the opposite

EXPERIMENT . Few people were asked to be in higher poses and lower poses. . After that they were sent to a stressful job interview, and the interviewers were asked to not to give any non verbal feed back and the interview are being recorded.

RESULT!!

The interviewers wanted to hire thethe ones who had done high power poses rather than the ones who had done low power poses.

RESULT!!

The recruiters wanted to hire the one onesWho had done high power

poses rather than The ones who had done low power poses

Also the coders who were listening to the interview also

responded that the high power pose ones should be hired.

What do we get by this

Its not the content of the speech that matters. It’s the presence they’re bringing to the speech

They bring their true selves , ideasand present them as themselves,

Feeling confident and with no residue over them.

They have been SUCCESSFUL because

Be an Imposter, pretend to be powerfulIn your body postures, It will change your

Mind.

Try doing power posesAnd be successful.
