BURDEN OF DISEASE IN THAILAND, 2009

DISABILITY-ADJUSTED LIFE YEAR (DALY)

Sum of the years of life lost due to premature mortality (YLL) in the population and the equivalent ‘healthy’ years lost due to disability (YLD) for incident cases of the health condition

DALY = YLL + YLD

YLL = number of deaths x standard life expectancy at age of death

YLD = incidence x duration x severity weight

1 DALY = one lost year of “healthy” life

Life expectancy which people are expected to have healthy life
