    School News From the classroom Each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the school is split into two classes for literacy and numeracy: years 1-3 and years 4-6. English: This term in English we have a strong focus on reading and comprehension skills in both classes. We are also working on spelling, grammar and handwriting. For writing, both classes are focusing on writing letters. The senior class are also developing their public speaking skills through debating. Numeracy: On Mondays the whole school works on problem solving skills. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays students work in their separate classes and this term the focus is on operations in number, beginning with addition. Human Society and Its Environment – History: This term we are learning about Australia’s First Nation’s people. Last week we looked at Aboriginal Astronomy, in particular the ‘Dark Emu’ of our Milky Way. Science: In science this term we are studying the solar system. Students are enjoying learning about the features of planets and human space exploration. Art: The focus of our art lessons this term is First Nation’s art. Dot paintings, rock art, bark painting and other contemporary forms are being examined. Music: Music is on Thursday afternoons and students are learning recorder this term. We have several English and Hungarian folksongs which sound beautiful on recorder. Sport: This term students are travelling to Taree Ten Pin Bowling each Friday for sport. This was made possible through a sporting in schools grant. Wellbeing: Students are enjoying working in their wellbeing journals each Wednesday. We are also continuing to explore the qualities of an effective learner through the ‘You Can Do It’ program. Zone Swimming Carnival 20th February A permission note is attached for those who have been selected for the carnival and who haven’t as yet returned the permission note to the school, Please return it to the school tomorrow – Tuesday.

    Phone Tree A new phone tree is attached. Please keep the school updated of changes to all phone numbers. P&C News This week some students are attending the Zone Swimming carnival on Wednesday. As a result canteen will be held on Thursday this week only with Spaghetti Bolognese on the menu. Can you please look at the canteen roster that was emailed by Tanya to everyone and choose the dates that suit you as there are many gaps. Students are going to Sydney this year 27th -29th August inclusive for their Major Excursion, school camp please see www.yhagroups.com.au. The camp will cover multiple key learning areas with the final details are still in progress. Parents will be notified with information as it comes to hand however if you have any accommodation queries regarding students please contact the school. Books have been added to the P&C Nook on the kitchen shelves for parents to borrow and to look at regarding cyber safety for children and building resilience. Both titles are worth a look and have great information designed to protect our students online. The P&C and the school have been offered a Community Building Partnership Grant towards playground equipment to the value of $13900. The school and the P&C are working towards getting quotes so the funds can be claimed. Final designs will be considered after this has been achieved. Ronnie Miller's 90th Birthday is being held by the Bobin Hall on 6th of April 2019. It is expected to be a wonderful celebration with possibly over 100 guests. The P&C are asking for volunteers to help on the night to support the Hall team out in the kitchen. Further details will follow.

    BOBIN HALL NEWS Friday Nights There has been a change of start time to 6pm for Summer – join us for a drink, chat & laugh. Tea Coffee, water and soft drinks are available. Sunday Lunch The next lunch will be 24th February from midday onwards. Entrees $5 Mains $10 Desserts or cheese plate $4 Membership If you are not a member and would like to join to support the hall, please come along on a Friday night to join for just $5. Grow Free – Community Produce Cart A cart has been set up at the hall (out the back near the BBQ) for excess produce, preserves, plants and the like provided for the community free by the community. Please come along and give what you can, take what you need. Available Fridays from 5pm until after the Friday night Social. Ronnies 90th Birthday Saturday 6th April there will be a lunch for our “Mayor’s” Birthday from midday onwards. Ronnie is providing a pig on a spit, please bring salads and desserts to share and celebrate. The P&C will be making the hall look beautiful for the party.

    Bobin Rural Fire Service AGM on 20th May 2019 at 7pm. Allan Moore will be retiring as Captain and we are URGENTLY looking for new members. A new truck was handed over in January and it is important to have more members join immediately for us to keep the truck. Please come along to show your support for this vital service.
