Plan for Today• Notes on epithelial tissue

• Skin Brainpop/film

• Skin reading

• HW-reduce and summarize notes

• Remaining science fair presentations

Epithelial tissue(from the other day)

• Epithelial tissue covers body surfaces and lines body cavities. Functions include lining, protecting, and forming glands.

Skin Notes

• an organ • forms a protective barrier against germs • helps maintain a constant body

temperature• human skin is only about 0.07 inches (2

mm) thick

3 Skin Layers

1. Epidermis—the outer tough protective layer that contains melanin

2. Dermis--(located under the epidermis) contains nerve endings, sweat glands, oil glands, and hair follicles.

3. subcutaneous tissue--under the two skin layers is a fatty layer (the word subcutaneous means "under the skin").
