East Tennessee Community Design Center to Honor Ashley Capps with Bruce McCarty Community Impact Award
Knoxville, TN – The East Tennessee Community Design Center (ETCDC) will present the Bruce McCarty Community Impact Award to Ashley Capps at its 2015 Award Celebration on Thursday October 29th at the Knoxville Museum of Art.
The Bruce McCarty Community Impact Award is granted to individuals the ETCDC believes have demonstrated a commitment to building a better future for this region. The award is a tribute to the legacy of architect Bruce McCarty and the contributions he made to this region through his vision as the leading founders of the ETCDC, through his professional accomplishments, and the many lives he touched throughout his career. Mr. Capps will join past recipients of the award, which include David Dewhirst, Randy and Jenny Boyd, Carol Evans, and Paul James.
The 2015 Award Celebration promotes the importance of quality design and raises funds to support the projects of the ETCDC. Now in its 45th year, the Design Center has completed 1,000 projects, contributed thousands of hours of pro bono design and planning assistance across our region, and helped important projects move from dream to reality.
Award Recipient: Ashley Capps is well known internationally for his amazing work as a music promoter and founder of AC Entertainment. In addition to highly successful festivals and concerts, Mr. Capps is a strong promoter of the arts and the importance of arts and design for quality of life and economic success of communities. His ‘Bonnaroo Works Fund’ contributes over $200,000/year to non-‐profit projects to support music, education and sustainability. The Knoxville native began his career as a disc jockey at WUOT, produced his first show at the Jubilee Theater, opened a fabled Old City nightclub called Ella Guru’s, and was a co-‐founder of the MetroPulse newspaper. His many creative accomplishments include the internationally-‐acclaimed Big Ears Festival, wildly-‐popular Bonnoroo Music Festival, and managing bookings for the Tennessee and Bijou Theatres. Mr. Capps recently joined forces with a Canadian promoter to establish the WayHome Music and Arts Festival in Ontario and was contracted to book and operate the historic Tivoli Theatre in Chattanooga.
