FSPSPARTNERSWITHCROSSWALKMARKETINGToday,CrosswalkMarketingGrouppresentedacheckformorethan$16,000totheFortSmithPublicSchoolsTransportationdivision.Thismoneyisdesignatedtosupportimportantsafetyinitiativesforthedistrict’s87tripandroutebuses.ArkansasAct941providestheopportunitytogenerateextrarevenueforschooldistricttransportationdepartmentsthroughoutthestate.FSPSwillusetheseadditionaldollarstopromotepositivemessagesforandaboutdistrictstudentsandtheirteachers.Thecheckrepresents60percentofthenetsponsorshiprevenue.Dr.DougBrubaker,FortSmithPublicSchoolsSuperintendent,said,“Ensuringandpromotingstudentsafetyandstudentachievementareimportantprioritiesforourdistrict.Wearegratefulforthesupportofoursponsors.Theyarehelpingtodisseminateimportantandpositivemessagesaboutourstudents,schools,andprogramsthroughtheirinvestmentsinthisbusadvertisingprogram.”CurrentprojectsponsorsincludeABB,ArvestBank,BaptistHealthSystems,CentennialBank,FirstNationalBank,HarryRobinsonBuickGMC,Sam'sClub,andUAFS.FSPStransportationwillreinvestthismoneytoenhanceandimprovesafetyonbuses.Thesedollarscouldbeusedtopurchaseadditionalcamerastoassistwithbussupervision.Districtrepresentativesarealsolookingintothecostofcollisionavoidancewarningsystemspurchasedbyotherdistrictswhoalsousethisextrarevenuestream.Accordingtothelaw,thesefundscanbeusedtoprovideaddeddrivereducation,andtocoverbusmaintenanceexpensesaswell.ASBA2020SCHOLARSHIPAWARDPROGRAMTheASBAEducationalFoundationiscurrentlyseekingapplicationsforthe2020ScholarshipAwardProgram.TheFoundationhasawardedcollegescholarshipstochildrenofArkansasschoolboardmemberssince1994.Theawardsarebasedonastudent’sacademicrecordandleadershippotential.

FortSmithPublicSchoolsWeeklyBoardReport Page4of8WeekofJanuary24,2020 SECURITYUPDATEFortSmithPublicSchoolsPoliceWeeklyActivityFSPSOfficersrespondedto78callsforservice,visitedschoolsatotalof20times,counseled110studentsandcontacted55parentsorguardians.SOCIALMEDIASAFETYCLASSOfficerBrianBeaverrecentlytaughtaSocialMediaSafetyClasstostudentsatSuttonElementary.ThetopicwasthepopularsocialmediasiteTIKTOK.Thissiterecentlyhasbecomeawareoflawenforcementasasiteusedbymanypredators.OfficerBeaverspoketothestudentsaboutthedangersofthissiteandothers.OfficerBeavergavetipstostudentsabouthowtopracticesafetywhileonline.
