Previous winner nominations have also included at least two letters of support, a current candidate resume and collateral pieces such as articles or publica- tions that speak to the candidate’s qualifications for this prestigious role; however these items are not required for consideration. At the minimum, the grand mar- shal nominee should be a dynamic and inspirational individual with lo- cal ties that have had a direct impact on the Loveland community; have professional achievement or signifi- cant accomplishments to the com- munity including awards and special recognition received; embody the principles of community having civic and community involvement, advancing causes for the com- munity; be recognized for notable contributions to Loveland’s achievements; demonstrate loyalty to Loveland, its busi- ness, residents and to self and be an individual who has been a part of historic moments in Loveland’s history. Previous Corn Roast Festival parade marshal’s include notable community lead- ers such as Mary Gullikson, Kathi Wright, Al Stevens, Ken Weedin, Jack Devereaux, Bob Sakata and Les Race to name a few. Self-nominations are not accepted. Selections will be made by the Corn Roast standing committee members, made up of Loveland Chamber of Commerce investors and Engaging Loveland supporters. Submissions and questions may be directed to [email protected], faxed to 667-5211 attn: Corn Roast commit- tee or by calling 667-6311. It’s an exciting time here in Loveland with a grand opportu- nity before us! The potential for 7,000 new jobs and the prospect of becoming the hub for aerospace and clean energy manufacturing in Northern Colorado, and possibly even Colorado itself is within our grasp. Let’s be clear on what this means; opportunity as defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary is a favorable juncture of circum- stances. An opportunity does not guarantee a result, but it does provide a strong likelihood of a desired outcome for those who take the appropriate action. This is our moment Loveland! Our City leaders (Betsey Hale, Bill Cahill, Mayor Cecil Gutirrez and City Council) and each of you with your support in letters, cards, and phone calls have positioned us into a favorable juncture of circum- stances. Being selected by the Colorado Association for Manu- facturing and Technology (CAMT) as the existing facilities site for the Aerospace Clean Energy (ACE) Manufacturing and Innovation Park has catapulted Loveland into the lead for being the home of thousands of high-tech, high pay- ing jobs. To see this result to fruition we need to continue to act and seize our destiny. This is not the time for us to sit by idly and hope we achieve a result that will put people back to work and provide employ- ment opportunities for us, our children and our grandchildren. Nor is this the time for us to wait for our City leaders to tell us what to do next while we hope and pray they complete the negotia- tion process with CAMT. No this is our time, just as it was in 1959 when our community rallied to bring Hewlett-Packard to Love- land. Now is the time for us to raise funds to help the companies we expect to attract. Having a fantastic site (the Agilent Campus) and access to Technology Acceleration Program (TAP) via CAMT and National Aeronautics and Space Admin- istration (NASA) is not enough to bring companies to Loveland. ACE will provide Loveland with strong partners and significant incentives to recruit quality high- tech businesses to our community, but relocating an established busi- ness can be an expensive venture. Just as in 1959, it will take a community to show its support and provide resources for revolution- ary companies to build a home in Loveland. In 1959, our community rallied by creating a Loveland Develop- ment Fund (which included dimes and quarters from school children) used to acquire the land that is now the Agilent Campus. Today, Lovelanders can contribute to a new fund, the Agilent Redevelop- ment Fund! You can learn more about this fund and how you can contribute by visiting the Cham- ber’s website at www.Loveland. org/AgilentRedevelopmentFund. We’ll also be organizing several fund raising events over the next several weeks and we’ll be sure to share this info with you when the details are finalized. Choosing the Right Photographer

For Your Needs

So, you need photos that show your headshot or to communicate a product, service or event? Look for a photographer who is passionate about telling a story with pictures. Ask to see examples of the photographer's images that are similar to what you envision that you want to communicate. Ideally, you're directed to an online gallery to study for ideas. The photographer may be able to write the script for the photo-shoot, but, the more you can define what you want to illustrate, the better result you will get. Research the Internet and print media for examples to show to the photographer. If you participate in the role of "art direction", you and your photographer partner will produce the best photos supporting your marketing mission.

International Travel Vaccinations

If you are considering an interna-tional trip, whether for business or pleasure, it is important to receive appropriate vaccinations for the areas you will be visiting. Different areas of the globe require different vaccina-tions to cover exposure to diseases. Your provider will want to review your immunization records, medical history and any current medical is-sues. In Larimer County, international immunizations and health informa-tion can be obtained by appointment through the health department (970) 498-6700 and Banner Occupational Health Services, (970) 278-4580.

By Midge Toomey, MS, LEED APwww.mynewwings.com

Midge Toomey, My New Wings and Linda Hughey, Competent Assistance for Nonprofits (CAN) have partnered to develop the Northern Colorado Nonprofit Resource Center (NCNRC) and are currently collabo-rating with government agencies, local municipalities, library districts and professional organizations to accomplish this goal. Several communities in Colo-rado, including Boulder/Broomfield, Denver, El Paso County and Estes Park have created resource centers that serve the growing nonprofit populations in their respective cities and there is community-wide support for a Center in Northern Colorado.

The mission of NCNRC is “To provide quality management support services to help strengthen and connect nonprofit organizations in order to maximize charitable resources”. The Center will provide re-sources for capacity building, best practices, network-ing opportunities and other programs to help advance the nonprofit mission. They suggest, “by strengthen-ing the nonprofit community, donors can feel confi-dent that their dollars are used wisely and nonprofit professionals can feel assured that they are receiving the most expert and up-to-date services”.

Services will include; training and workshops that offer information, education and development skills; comprehensive referral system of nonprofit consul-tants that connects organizations with experts in the industry; complete on-demand management support and services that enhance the organization’s ability to succeed and networking opportunities that encourage collaboration and relationship building among non-profit professionals. The Center welcomes community input and recommendations.

Two programs that currently exist as part of the Center are The Northern Colorado Resource Fair and

the Monthly Nonprofit Networking Events. The Northern Colorado Resource Fair is an event that connects pro-nonprofit businesses that provide a service, program, product or fund raising opportunity with the nonprofit community in one convenient location.

The 2011 NoCo Resource Fair is scheduled for June 3, 2011 at The Embassy Suites Hotel, Spa and Confer-ence Center in Loveland from 10:00am-4:00pm.
