Operating Instructionsfor On-Board Computer

The on-board computer offers you a great many functions which will make your journeys even safer and more of a pleasure.

The GPS navigation system renders it unnecessary to consult printed maps or search for road signs and brings you accurately to any destination shown on the map CD.

The radio and the cassette and CD players ensure the best possible signal recep-tion, sound quality and choice of entertainment for all listeners' tastes, and take the monotony out of even the longest journey.

The TV with teletext ensures a supply of topical information and provides in-car en-tertainment while you are waiting.

The BMW car phones mean that you can always be contacted and make outgoing telephone calls.

The computer calculates data relevant to the journey – average fuel consumption, range and estimated time of arrival. It also provides additional safety both before the engine can be started – for instance by demanding a code input for the engine immobiliser – and when driving, for example by supplying a warning signal to make sure that you do not drive faster than intended.

GPS stands for Global Positioning Sys-tem.

This is part of the navigation system, and uses satellite signals to determine your car's position.

As a result, the navigation system is able to guide you efficiently and reliably to any map destination you select.

Automatic memorisingThe automatic memorising feature (Autostore) is useful if you would like to find whichever station currently offers the strongest reception signal on the AM waveband when you are on a long journey.

On each of the LWA, MWA and SWA memory levels, the six stations with the strongest reception signals can be memorised automatically.

This function, which is called up as standard first, can be used to select the eight names or numbers that you call most frequently.

These subscribers are automatically memorised.

If an entry has not been used very often in the recent past, it will automatically be eliminated from the TOP-8 list and will have to be dialled via the "Direc-tory" function.

You can choose and enter a code with-out which the engine cannot be started. When the code has been activated, the driver is required to enter it with the ig-nition key in position 1.

Each time the code is activated, it is valid only until the next time the engine is started.

If the code is not available or has been forgotten, emergency de-activation is possible; see page 88.
