Victoria, BC V8Y 2L2 Phone: 250-658-5558 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE It hardly seems possible that Rich McMorran is no longer with us and I think for many of us the reality still hasn’t sunk in. Rich really was the heart and soul of CB55+ and contributed so much in small and large ways. I, and the rest of the Board, relied on his wisdom and wise counsel whenever issues arose. He will assuredly be missed by all who knew him but the legacy he and the other members of the “Fab Five” created will live on and benefit all the members of CB55+ and the greater Cordova Bay community. He wanted the Centre to be a warm and welcoming place, which he exemplified, as well as bringing his own style of humour and sense of fun. Our condolences to Bev, his wife, and the family for their loss. Our CB55+ centre has been relatively quiet for the last two months but some classes and groups have continued through the summer. The annual BBQ, hosted by the Men’s Group, fed over 140 satisfied members. Thanks to everyone who helped make this another successful event. Several special events were also held, the most recent being the “Meet and Greet” on August 30, when new and current members were invited to learn about the programs being offered here. We welcome your ideas and suggestions for new programs and events. The renovations to the School have now been completed and I am sure the teachers and students are really looking forward to moving into the new premises. We welcome back Kelly Uraii, Principal, who returns after a leave, and we look forward to working closely with her and the teachers, especially with our Intergenerational programs. I would like to thank Anita Ko for so ably stepping in as Principal this year and for supporting our strong relationship with the School. The Governance Committee met over the summer to review our Constitution and Bylaws to comply with the new Societies Act. If the recommendations are approved by the rest of the Board at our next meeting, a Special Meeting will be held in October for consideration by all CB55+ members. We are also in the process of renewing our Partnership Agreement with Saanich. Few changes are anticipated as the current agreement seems to have worked well for both parties. REMEMBER WHEN …Does anyone remember the Jingle Bell Jog on December 16, 2004?  It was our first joint venture with Cordova Bay Elementary School and was a fundraiser to send one of the school parents to Africa to nurse AIDS patients.  The lady in the Santa suit is the parent, Thea Nation, who was a Hospice nurse.  Former school principal, Brent Carbery (now coordinator of the Intergenerational digital photography program for grades 4 & 5) is on the right.  Can you identify any of the others????

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE (Cont’d.) We are continuing to “battle” the temperature issue in the Big Room. I should point out that the School Board controls the temperature in the facility, and we have been working with the maintenance staff for at least two years to find a satisfactory solution. It is a complicated system that is determined by temperature and also carbon dioxide levels. We will keep you informed. Also, there is a comprehensive report prepared by the Ad Hoc Space Committee, for members to read in the lounge or sent electronically by request. I trust you have had a great summer and are looking forward to reconnecting with old CB55+ friends as well as making new friends in September. A special welcome to new members. CB55+ has a lot to offer and also affords you the opportunity to be involved in the many aspects of the organization. David Docherty
