LOCALOgden Taco Stands- Mekenna Malan
Out of all the many food options downtown,
nothing screams Ogden quite like the taco
stands between 25th and 26th street. They are
totally fast, cheap, authentic and delicious.
The carts are stocked with several condiments,
drinks, and roasted jalapeos. What makes
the taco stands so great is the fact that they
are native only to Ogden. They are a staple to
O-Town culture, not only known but loved byits residents. This past year, Ogden High
hired one of the taco carts to cater their senior
party could there possibly be another food
option so down-to-earth with the downtown
way of life? Im convinced.
I am pleased but slightly embarrassed to admit
that, being an Ogden resident my whole life, I
took my very first excursion to the taco carts
this past week (I grew up with a mother who
insisted the meat would give me salmonella).Every time I would tell my peers that I had
never eaten one of Ogdens famous tacos, they
never failed to gape at me in disbelief. With
that said, I had high expectations, and yet I
was still pleasantly surprised. The vendor was
kind; the meat was thoroughly cooked, on the
salty side yet still yummy. It made my day to
sit in the Municipal Gardens downtown with
my chicken tacos and bottled orange soda.
Also, the most important detail for me afterbeing brainwashed my whole life, I felt great
after eating them. I didnt throw up or
contract salmonella. Hallelujah!
Im using this as a local piece to call out the
few Ogden residents who, like me only a week
ago, have never experienced the joy of tacos
from the carts located on Washington
from the carts located on WashingtonBoulevard. Dont be afraid of them, and they
wont disappoint. Im also thoroughly
convinced that you arent a true Ogden native
until you try them. (Hint: Go on Tuesdays, and
you can get two for exactly $1.00)

POETRYMelancholy Math- Jack WilliamsMelancholy math is all I doWhile I lie in bed thinking the hours throughThree to nine, thats eight hours right?Sleeping in the afternoon, not the nightSleep deprives me all the timeIm working, and I dont gain a single dime
Tick ticking quickly is the clockThe calendar pages fall faster than a rockIn reality the speeds are the same
And I continue my counting gameCounting down to opening the doorTo be trained to be a corporate whore
Buy the supplies, crayons, pencils, pensCounting the price in tensThis system has never been freeNo matter what lies they might tell meAnd being given praise for doing what I shouldNever did me any good
So much time, so little workSlowly reversing, fast enough to make me go berserkStand in this monotonous lineReady to pretend your fineEvery blank page is ready for you to fillAnd they will tell you, melancholy math is a necessary skill
Ambience- Jack WilliamsLying on a mattress with no sheetsShitty speakers blaring senseless beatsMaybe I should get some sleepWhen I could just take the blue pillI lay silent and still
I dont recall my dreamsIs reality as dull as it seems? Its slowly killing meThis pill has me on one knee
Im going to marry my slumberAll I have to do is up the number
I try not to feel the heartbreakAnd yet my heart still achesI Cant recall exactly whyIll just take another and close my eyesYou dont care, you never couldMaybe this time my eyes will close for good
Sheep- Brooklynn Bosworth
A wild heart that beats in roller coaster motion to life.A beast inside rebelling the ebb and flow of society.Tranquil wars that contradict every corner of a round mind.Sound words hide the mental cracks.Cracks showing through to a world of color.Like portals to something more real than life itself. And so unrealistic.Small peep holes to a beautiful madness of complete understanding.A better place.Logic never was logical in the long run.So different that they're all the same.

MUSICPARACOSM, Washed Out- Jackson KerbsPARACOSM is the new full-length album
from WASHED OUT, The Chillwave musical
project from producer Ernest Green. This
is Greens second album two years after
Within and Without, which was released
just shortly after the very popular and
successful EP: Life of Leisure, which
verified Greens name as a Chillwave artist.
As for PARACOSM, Green stays true to his
notorious lazy drum loops and cloudy
vocals, however still seems progress his
sound with experimental samples and
diferent influences. For example on the
opening track a rainforest setting is
developed with birdcalls and tropical
ambiance followed by romantic harp
progressions, which seamlessly transition
into the second track It All Feels Right.
Everything about this track seems to thrive
on the island setting the most from its
tropical percussion to the wonderful string
progressions. However the interesting and
experiential thing about PARACOSM is the
diversity in song vibe. After the first two
lush and secluded tracks, a rural third
track follows with modern drums and a
very surprising sample of crowd laughter
and chattering. Throughout the album the
influences change in this way with
allusions to city-life, pop, funk, all under
the Chillwave Haze. More interesting thanthis, every track seems to transition into
the next without any abrupt pauses or
cuts, making PARACOSM one to listen to
its entirety in order. Which is one of the
many things I love about a WASHED OUT
album. Definitely an album to own and
one you can lay down, plug in, and trust to
take you somewhere where you cant help
but relax. 7/10

CINEMAOnly God Forgives- Noah Wilcock Nicholas Winding Refn's legacy may
sadly prove to be short, as Drive, his previous
film with box ofce weight, is attesting
through critics word to be merely a cinematic
one hit wonder; following the release of Only
God Forgives. Its a shame, really; finally, a
director emerges with the intentions of self-
fabricating his own name brand of style,
instead of mimicking Spielbergs, and is
immediately bashed for it. If there wereanything to put the majority of the blame for
Only God Forgives rotten Rotten Tomatoes
ratings, it would be the general audiences
ignorance to good plot, originality, and
necessary violence within a story. Of course,
this movie was no Transformers, for which
only God could forgive, you actually have to
watch it in order to feel it. Believe it or not,
everything in a movie is put there for a
reason, its not just for shits and giggles; sothe next time think before you ask stupid
questions like: Why the hell does it show his
hands so many times? Watch it. Maybe youll
figure out the non-literal message beheld in
the numbering close ups. This critics review
